I am a new player fresh off 25 cadet matches with 9,309,843 Cbills to spend on a 1st Mech.

Considering an Orion but lets say I grind out another million or two, has anyone built an assault brawler like the Battlemaster or Victor using the standard non-XL engine those Mechs come with?

I like AC/20s and SRMs when possible too.

I have seen downgrading to a lighter non-XL motor for solid punchers, but nobody with the actual stock motor to save Cbills?

I'm sure Koniving probably has a 5 weapon group monstrosity in his arsenal, but I am NEW lol!

I challenge anyone willing to help an aspiring fresh cadet in this quest to link me something that has autocannon(s) and SRMs using the stock motor criteria & not overheat me the second I touch my mouse!

Thanks in advance, you guys have been SOOOO very helpful so far and I've only been reticent on buying a Mech so far because I want to spend that hard earned currency on something I like and will want to play.

Well, I personally like the Orion, it often is underrated and you can build pretty decent brawlers with the default engines.

If you want to go assault brawler with srms and an AC20, the Victor is better than the Battlemaster imho. The Battlemaster can be a fast med pulse laser boat, but you really need a large XL engine for this.

Personally, I would go for the Orion and use the saved money for upgrades and equipment.

Orion-K would be perfect here or Victor-9s. Victors are generally played with PPCs+AC20/gauss, hence strong pin point plus a large XL+JJs. A default Orion-K build would be AC20, 4MLs, 2 SRM4.

Generally I would say it's not worth buying a Victor without a huge XL engine, either the 375 or the 350 XL. The Orion-K is very much like a smaller Atlas-RS and hence plays well even without fast XL engine (you have more armor, make the SRMs ASRM6s and give him a couple more heatsinks on the AS-RS, but the Orion-K is faster).

Personally I would go for a assault, simply because heavies are in a overabundance thanks largely in part to the Timberwolf; that is (depending on time of day) unless you enjoy staring at the search circle as it spins hypnotically around and round for two or three minutes.
