Giving MWO another shot.

Checked my mechbay and can't for the life of me figure out why I bought a CTF-2X. I guess those were the days when SRM were considered powerful.

I own the Ilya and the 3D so assume those are keepers. I have already mastered/maxed EXP on the 3 mechs.

Is there any reason to keep the 2X or is this a skippable mech nowadays?

The Phract 2X was my first phract. After that I've used the 1X, 4X and 3D and can tell you, no it really isn't worth keeping. As you said, it may have been viable back when srms were good, but now it's really junk. The rest of the cataphracts can do everything the 2X can but with an extra balistic/energy. The only thing the 2X is good for is having some streaks up your sleeve for lights and being an lrm troll with 2 LRM15's in your left arm.

I wouldn't sell it unless you really needed mechbays, but yeah, it really is the red-headed step child of the 'phracts.

Oh yeah, now that you mentioned LRMs, I remember I had some idea about wonderng if arm mounted LRMs launched at a higher angle if I aimed arms up (due to laser on other end).

As I recall, aiming up didn't make any difference at the time, and then I decided I didn't like LRMs either.

Guess the 2X is off to the recycling bin, thanks for replies!

I still use my 2X, pretty much as often as I do my other Cataphracts (less so when I'm getting xp for something else, like I am with Firestarters right now).

CTF-2X is what I'm using right now, but there are quite a few potential tweaks you could make while maintaining the core of the build.

I kinda wish the 2X got a buff... at least expand the missile tubes on the arms to 6 each... but that would be too easy...

No, CTF-3D, CTF-4X or Ilya are the only ones worth keeping.
