Will those who fight for a house win territory for their house (represented on a map) or is that only contracts for mercenaries?

Considering the rather nebulous state of CW at the moment I don't think we have an answer for that yet. From what I've gathered, yes house units will generally be able to fight for territory for their faction, and will have some sort of impact on CW.

Originally, and they haven't said otherwise, mercs will be the ones capturing and holding planets via contracts for Houses. The best guess at this point, given that groups will be limited to 2 or 3 mans, House players (and Lone Wolves) will fill in the missing slots.
That or they will give up the idea of Merc units holding and defending planets in a fashion similar to a MMO where you capture and defend a castle etc. In which case, it will be the House that gets the most wins etc gets the planet, and mercs will take contracts to fight etc.

As far as bryan has said......
Houses will fight for "Fronts". (think Heavy Gear's online multiplayer with north vs south front warfare.)
Mercs will fight directly for certain planets, but only once a house/faction has gained possession of the whole front. (once that happens contracts open up for mercs to take planets etc....or something like that.....)
Eventually, they have said, they would like to let houses / factions do what the mercs will be doing....basically directly taking planets by fighting the defenders in organized matches etc, instead of playing in the pub queues (the future solo to 3man queue, and the public 4man to 12man group queue) in random matches etc that effect just the "front".

We are still waiting for the Devs to design House Units, which hopefully be some sort of bastardization of Merc units and Faction players.

This the greatest subject I have heard yet. Many of the other topcis to me are simple.
For instance, why the 3/3/3/3? Answer for realism, also for lore to include all the various weight classes blah blah blah.
The complaints about the new UI 2.0, well its missing half the buttons still for starters, easy to see thats its finally in game but not done yet
Anyway, how to have a cool strategy map where the great houses fight for domination, while including the clan invasion AND have merc corps own and fight for planets as described at launch.
A good modern strategy map is the total war series of video games, but similar strategy maps go back since the first computer im sure
, so I have my hopes up that mechwarriors strategy map has at least some depth to it and is interesting for all the players and so on.
I think they will do a great job honestly, but i am not hyped on the static front line that doesnt move....
I havnt thought of a way to include all the features everyone is hoping for myself, so i wish them luck :. If i do i will reply again!!

Houses fight for fronts. Each house gets "points" or something for each battle they win. Maybe some sorta perk for the house pilots depending on total point standings.
Merch Units aka players banding together could be hired for credits, salvage rights ect ect for a given game session.
Example. A pre-made House group hires a Merch Group to drop with them to win a battle on Frozzen City.
Have to a MUCH better forum system in which Merc Units could advertise and show whos availble at any given time.
I myself would still like to see a true system where players can have differnt pilots. Say up to 5:
House Pilots can gain rank, dont have to pay for repairs, but get assigned as needed until they reach high enough rank to begin requesting drop rights.
Merc Pilots survive by the cred. Smart players will join good Merc Units who back each other and get the best salvage. Maybe a common cred pool to pay for repairs. Those Units that make names for themselves will get hired alot more, and can be way more selective on hiring.
Canon Groups however such as Wolfs Dragoons or the Grey Death would have to off limits or perhaps limited to those pilots who reach a SERIOUS rank
