Read end of post for summary if you don't have the time, or don't care to read the whole thing.

============================================================================

Okay, so I realize there may be posts out there already asking for help, but I didn't seem to see anything that answered my question, so I decided to post.

I'll make it as short as possible, but first:

My Specs (sorry if my PC isn't the best, it's all I could afford at the time):
CPU: AMD FX 8320 @3.5GHz
GPU: Sapphire R9 270x @ 1070MHz core clock, 1400MHz memory
HDD: 1TB Western Digital 6Gb/s @ 7200RPM
RAM: 8GB @ 1600MHz

My issue is, I am very "noobish" when it comes to graphical settings & performance, so my question is:

Which settings do I adjust to get the best performance, while still looking decently pretty?

I am currently playing on DX11, LOW settings, Vsync off, damage glow on, motion blur off, FOV set to 75-80 (don't remember, but I know it's one of those).

I am getting like average of around 45-50FPS in combat, minimum which happens randomly is like 30ish FPS.

My problem is, the mechs look pretty crappy on low. and I have no idea what settings to change to make it LOOK better, while also keeping performance good.

Any advice would be appreciated greatly, thanks in advance, and happy hunting out there :rolleyes:

Too long for you? Summary: How do you tune your graphic settings on MWO, to make it look as pretty as possible, while still getting as much performance as you can

As a WAG, I'm gon'a tell ya' to keep Envionment to Low, and bump everything else to Medium. You then got'a add the stuff from
http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__3175356 to you user.cfg, along with
sys_budget_videomem = X
where X is the amount of RAM on your video card, in MB.

You can lower Shadows for 30% more FPS, also PostProcessing if i remember right for another 30% giving you 60% better Minimum Frames (works for me but i dont use it, only tested it some time ago).

Sorry for the long delay, college has been kicking my butt with homework & such, I have only been able to play like once a week.

Thanks for the advice though guys!

Goose, I applied a lot of the settings in that post you linked, as well as the one you posted here, I also set everything to medium, except for environment, shadows, and post processing, which are at low I also have AA turned off.

But my question is, do I need to manipulate or any anything because I'm running an 8-core CPU? I know the guy in that post was running a quad core I believe? Dunno if there's a difference.

As far as I can tell, performance is still pretty unpredictable, still sometimes drops down as low as 28, though it never really stays that low for long.

Still have a few things to play around with, such as lowering the Sys_MaxFPS value, and such.

ca_thread = 0 could easly be a mistake, for you, what with all them cores.

I've never found anything on how Cryengine likes Piledriver Moduals: How many, and which, threads need access to a math coprossor?

DX11 seems to add CPU load to threads that wern't my bottleneck: You seem to have the core count to also deem DX11 a non-issue, but that's just a guess …

I do remember reading AMD needs ~50% moar MHz then any given Intel CPU you compair to in order to break even; This implies you are going to have a rough time of it, as it seems the Intel guys aren't happy untill they are in the 4.0+ GHz range …

Some important chunks of Convential Wisdom haven't made it into this thread yet: Turn off the damage glow; Turn the AA back on, but only to PostAA; Set the Particals to Low. Paricals in particular is sesitive to CPU bottlenecks, and seems to be the #1 preformance slider …

Post Prossesing and Effects don't change fps much: People just clame to dislike them turned up …

Still don't know how much RAM is on your card: You ought to be able to boost your Textures to Very High if you have 2GB on it.

The Shaders slider seems to only effect the GPU load: If you are CPU-bound, turning this up some shouldn't hurt anything.

There's at lest one guy on the forum whom claims' sys_budget_fps will work where sys_MaxFPS won't: I'd just as soon keep them both, and make shour they match.

I'm sorry that all's not more concret; Good luck.

id also go down to dx9, the current dx11 is not even close to optimized. you should be able to up your settings a bit more and maybe even environment to med.
