Who else is looking forward to when the banshee can become a 95 ton kicking and punching steam rolling machine?

Who isn't looking forward to anything melee? Put to use the hands of our mechs and open the doors for mechs like the Hatchetman.

Then why not just use a 1 ton block of c4 vs. a sword. I'm thinking melee is not a reasonable addition. collision sure.
people close to fast now as it is.

A tactic I have noticed happening more recently is a big mech will pin another against a wall and alpha continuously until either one is knocked out. Quite annoying. I'd really like to put my fist through a cockpit in these instances (or a hatchet). :P

That was one of the tactics the IS used against the Clans that the clans were stymied by, so, PUT IN MELEE!!!
AND put collisions back in so I can scrape spiders and jenners off the soles of my Victors stompys

I don't understand why putting in melee is so hard.

Just make an attack with a range of 2-5 meters (based on mech class) that does mediocre damage (based upon tonnage) and high screen shake.

The damage should only be decent for mechs like the Hatchetman who actually have a weapon. (and increase their range some - though still very low)

With that low of range, using melee outside of a current face-hug scenario would really only be viable for fast mediums/heavies. (lights damage should be too low - and you'd need the speed to be able to close consistently)

Looking forward to melee is like looking forward to retirement...you hope and you hope and you keep paying in money and then, before you get there, you realize the fund is empty. Of all the things to wait for...this one will likely have you waiting longest.

I've got a great ping but get all weird and rubber bandy when too close to other mechs...not sure I'd want flying feet and fists thrown into that wonky equation.

But it is. So are collisions.

If they make an entirely new system - yes.

If they just make it an EXTREMELY short ranged attack with mediocre damage & high cockpit shake - it shouldn't. (except the graphics I suppose)

The graphics, the physics and hit detection of moving limbs, a whole new kind of HSR...these are the first things that come to mind. I am sure there are many others.

Not me.

Me.

Collisions, yes. The game required higher pilot skill when they were in the game.

But melee? In a real-time first-person shooter? No thanks. Boxing is bad enough in an actual boxing game.
