This is one of my most successful Jager builds: JM6-DD "MARS"
It keeps cool, good armor, plenty of ammo, good balance between armor cracking and crit seeking.

There's bucket's of viable builds on the mech....
You can streak boat, SRM boat, LRM boat, put PPC's on it, plunk an AC20 backed by some medium lasers or SRMS or SSRMs..
Bishop's build is great though, and it does mixed builds very nice.
It's just a really versatile mech that has hitboxes and a hard point layout that's hard to match.
What it's not going to do great is dakka... if you're looking for heavy ballistics the jager dd or a cataphract are a better bet.
If you think you'll like the 2D2, I'd encourage you to look at Victors as well.. they're sort the the Shadowhawk's big brother in play style.

Thanks for all the great input. Lots of great builds and suggestions. Now there are like 5 or 6 mechs I want.
I think I will start with the SHD-5M due to the included 275XL engine that I can use on the other variants as I work on mastery (though I am sure the 2D2 will be my go to SHD).

I run all 3 regularly still and enjoy them all! Great mech, have fun with it! Any questions just holler my Steiner cousin!
a couple "basic" builds that are versatile, using the stock engine
SHD-5M
SHD-5M
SHD-5M dakka eh....don't need the Beagle, swap for an AMS and ton of ammo
SHD-5M super enforcer mid range sniper/fire support
