Cataphract are pretty deadly, if you love Auto-Cannon, then the Cataphract (or Jagermech) is the way to go. Orion are fun as well, but the Cataphract I think holds my love in the Heavy category.

After gringing up your cbills with the trial mechs, you'll have already played with a 'phract a lot.
If you like it, go get a 1X, 4X, or 3D if you have cbills for your first one. If you don't love it or hit the dirt/buildings/hills because of the low-slung arms, then just get a Jaeger JM6-S or -A. Jaegers, Catapults, and Cataphracts are all well regarded heavy mechs.

Orion-VA best heavy, phracts cost tons of cash to make them work, they all need xl
With orions you can run standard engine until you can afford upgrade, they stil work.

Then keep playing. It is possible if you are willing to just enjoy the game and have fun. I have yet to pay a single MC for a mech, and yet have 22 of the damn things. (I have payed for Bays).

If you are having fun, just have fun, and enjoy the ride, the credits will flow when you stop forcing them.

Jagermechs are solid, some variety with the builds with the -A.
I didn't get MC until I needed more mechbays. Never paid MC for a mech, yet... probably will at some point for the +30% cBill bonus on a hero mech, but not yet.

I am apparently the only person in the world who likes the T-Bolt. I usually run a modified SS model. It took some getting used to, but it's a pretty good mech.

only use MC for Bays, Hero mechs. some Paints, Bobble heads that you can not resist, fuzz dice.

You can get a few paints for 1.5 million C-bills.

Champion mechs I do not see me buying them with MC only the non champion of the same mech with MC.

From time to time there are promotions with skins (once PC Gamer), razor dice, alien heads for hanging, the coconut monkey, the PC gamer paint colors.

As for heavies, unless you know which play still you like or are good at take time to look at them. You have about 30 matches or so untill you have 6 million more. Then remember that you will need a few million for DHS, endo steel. Jagers are solid, Thunder bolts you can mix AC, lasers and missiles. Dragons and Quickdraws are more like mediums with more striking attacks. Cataphracts are just AC boats and very good.

I can second that statement. I'm a dedicated medium pilot, but I love the Quickdraw.

The only other Heavy I own is a Cataphract, Ilya Muromets. When I transition to the Cataphract from say a Blackjack (medium mech) I keep hitting terrain. So the low slung arms of the Cataphract can take some getting used to.

As others have said, use the trial mechs to get a feel for the Chassis and pick the one you like piloting the most. Piloting skills can make up for less than ideal hardpoints.
