Giving new players a place to go to meet other players and get into team-drops seems like helping to me.

I think pitching it as more of an open door hang out night as a chance to meet other players -- which is hosted by the 20th AG might have been better. Those who like it might stay and join (or definitely come back at least) and those who don't, well won't.
