The current search function is not worth it's name.

There are no advanced search functions, no filtering and no sorting.
Especially the lack of sorting by time makes the search function unusable, because the results are full of old and outdated posts.

Please give the search function some love and add at least some standard functionality.
It's sad enough that a lot of detail information (e.g. the range of TAG) is not shown anywhere in the game. But by not having a suitable search function you deny players the only way to obtain such information.

Additionally this causes lots of redundant posts because players are unable to search if their topic already exists.

I don't know a single forum software with such a bad search function...

Yeah, trying to find any information is a nightmare unless you make your own personal archive of it.

It happens all too often that I want to quote something I know was in an Ask The Devs or a post by Paul but the search function is useless so I just have to give a "take my word for it" instead of backing up my arguments. It might help reduce confusion and questions on the forums if there were a reliable way to find information; but then again, I guess at least this way it's easier to deny that statements were made when nobody can find them.

It's been like this for over a year, and of course people have mentioned it countless times.

Here's the solution. Go to Google, enter your search there followed by 'site:mwomercs.com' and voila: useful search results. Use the search tools menu to filter by date.

That's a workaround, no solution ;)

But maybe PGI should use the google search by default if they can't improve their own search function...
Because by far not everyone knows how to use google for this.

If only that thing worked properly...

Test: Looking for Tag script.

MWO search form

One or all of your search keywords were below 4 characters or you searched for words which are not allowed, such as 'html', 'img', etc, please increase the length of these search keywords or choose different keywords.
Then tried 'tag script' as it suggested.
No results found for ''tag script''. Great!
Tried: 'tag ' script
Still nothing.

Google site search

mwomercs tag script site:mwomercs.com

Top result was the specific page I was looking for...

No, someone provided the link in a thread pretty much just like this one, and I boomarked it.

I think it's a default advanced search that's part of the forum's codebase.

The search tool is Google when you use the base website search.

The forums search tool is limited to the forums and will change at any time.

The old forum search tool actually allowed more advanced functionality than the new one we've had since MWO went to Open Beta.

I guess it isn't important and such a small % of the the playerbase "apparently" uses the forum's, especially since open beta. It is a shame, always why so many repeat questions keep getting asked, and asked and asked.

Lot's of other game websites use the same forum, and their search is SOOO much better.

So the base Search is getting updated? Since I keep getting this:

SEARCH IS TEMPORARILY DISABLED.
PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER.

Advanced Search returns nothing.

so yes? or your not allowed to say that yet? in case they go back on their word.

it needs the ability to switch from most popular, latest, oldest, most likes/votes etc.

Thanks for the search tabs kyle, however could we get a some sort of date sorting? Searching forums still comes up with irrelevant archived threads.

Ability to search like that is not the position at this time.
