So...with the implementation of DX11...what changes should we actually be looking for, theoretically?

Decreased cpu load, increased graphics card load, better antialiasing. I'll bet they're putting it in there first, THEN they'll work on improvements.

So, what I've seen of DX11 from the few drops I've had:
  • No noticeable visual difference
  • Slightly higher overall frame-rate, when there's little going on
  • However, the framerate seems to hiccup now an again, not cool
  • Most weapon-heat vapour-effect seem to bring the game to it's knees, causing ridiculously severe framerate drops. E.g.: everything maxed (no AA, blur, v-sync) on an Rad 7950, plunging from high 50-ies to mid 20-ies.
Overall, it's nice that we have it, but it needs more work as there seems to be no real benefits of it at the moment.

P.S: Freaking do an art pass on the Firestarter cockpit, it looks like it's stuck at medium settings.

I've already had that issue on DX9, doesn't seem like something new to DX11. Especially worse on frozen city when running really hot and walking backwards into your own vapor cloud. Goes from like 60fps to 20.

Also, if you alt-tab out of game, there is a large lag of a blank screen (both leaving and entering game) under DX11 that is not there on DX9

No major changes for me, minus the odd mech body-part not showing up or vanishing when targeted.....very strange. Overall SLI is working now...mostly. Energy Beams look far smoother and better under DX11 then they do under DX9.

@anyone having issues with Dx11.
First make sure your drivers are up to date, I updated mine last night before the patch came.
Make sure your computer can handle it at all, some early model DX11 cards won't be able to actually work with this game until refinements are done.
You can force SLI with DX11 as it is supported by it.

For comparison my system is quite strong and a little overkill for this game.

i7 3930 3.2ghz
16gb DDR3 running at 2133mhz
Geforce GTX 770 2GB
Geforce GTX 770 2GB (2 way SLI)
Creative X-FI PCI-E soundcard.

gtx 650 boost frame rate was over 55 but would get some "jerky" moments every so often. I couldn't see any of my framework drops.. Back to dx9 for me

Expect worse performance, I lose ten to twelve fps with dx11 enabled.

I get a really weird, almost imperceptible mouse lag with dx11 turned on. I turned on dx11, couldn't hit a darned thing... Restarted in dx9 - 5 kills. Back to dx11 - less than 200 dmg. Dx9 again - 800 dmg. Very strange! Using a Logitech g700s in wireless. Using wired made no difference.

Do remember all- this pass was just to get dx11 in there. It's far from optimized.

Crossfire flickers for me.

Clearly mileage does vary...

I've noticed absolutely no performance hit (save the minor stutter as the shaders are cached as previously mentioned)

Otherwise to my Mark-one eyeball, the textures are cleaner and colors appear sharper...

On average 30 to 50 fps @ very-high on everything + max AA via card settings.

No FPS hit but there is a bad enough stutter every so often.

Forgot - dual HiS Radeon 7950 iceq Boost cards. Forced crossfire, decent framerate. Just odd lag :P

ran slower on my machine (i have a dusty and ancient quad core) which is fine and expected, but [alt-enter] to switch between window and full screen didn't work anymore no matter what screen setting i had in settings - even if i could run DX11 that is a game breaker for me

I have heard about issues with particle effect on water causing people issues.. I need to test this myself, but honestly without the half second pauses being fixed for me I won't be switching even if there was better FPS.

Enabling DX11 caused a 10 FPS drop (on average), with pretty significant dips during game play. Also, I saw several texture glitches on Terra Therma. I saw them while looking down from the center ring in Mount Doom. They were all underneath the little bridges. Otherwise, the visuals didn't look any different. Setting Shadows to Medium seemed to help the FPS a bit. But the biggest problem was the random crashes. I'm not talking about client resets, I'm talking about hard crashes that caused the entire computer to reboot. Had it happen a few timed under DX11. So ultimately, I went back to DX9 and it's been fine every since.

Those who are already GPU bound will probably lose performance. Those who are CPU bound will likely gain marginally, or see little difference. I personally see little difference with my 3570k (4.2ghz) and 7970.

It may have been the placebo effect, but it really does appear the lighting/specular is better through the DX11 pipeline (which is one of the things that I expected). HPG was the only map I played on after I remembered to change my settings last night, but that is definitely the map where that kind of change would most easily be seen. I think I noticed a FPS reduction, but I'd rather test things scientifically before I say anything about it and decide I need to upgrade from my GTX 660 Ti.
