Hi,
I recently started rereading old btech novels... So it got me thinking. The dev question is closed to right now and I'm wondering if anyone knows the answer to the following questions. I couldn't find answers to them on a quick look.
  • Do PPCs cause heat increase when on target when hit?
  • Do PPCs disrupt communications around area(Commlink goes static)?
  • In btech lore there are examples of mechs being hit by multiple PPC's at once and shutting down either from heat or fried circuitry. Will this be possible?
  • Do some of the maps have temperature bonuses?
    • ICE world allows more heat dispersion.
    • Jungle World heat builds up quicker
  • If we stand in water do we get better thermal dispersion?
  • Can I burn a forest down with a flamer or catch grass a fire while wind spreads it for cover?

I've not seen answers to any of those questions. Sorry.

I too have been wondering if PGI will include an increase in efficiency for leg-mounted heatsinks for mechs standing in water. Used to be one of my favorite tactics in TT (especially for light mechs mounting PPCs).

  • Can I burn a forest down with a flamer or catch grass a fire while wind spreads it for cover? <<< TREES SHOULD BURN

They've also insisted there will be environmental factors that affect heat dissipation. Specifically hot planets will make you run hot, cool planets will make you run cool. They've also hinted at other environmental issues such as fog, storms, gravity and the like.

I had totally forgotten about these items of game play. Good thinking! I hope they do in fact add these elements to the game.

I hope i gets in depth like this... but from the videos they have on the site i doesn't look like you even knock trees down when walking through them. Maybe a future feature at the very least?

The only terrain feature I care about is blasting craters into the earth with my missiles, a la MW3!

Kidding... Though that was hella fun.

Environment should always be considered for battle plans. I'd like to see a BT 300

  • Do PPCs cause heat increase when on target when hit?
I don't believe they do, no.
  • Do PPCs disrupt communications around area(Commlink goes static)?
They tend to in MW games, but not area of effect, just momentarily on the mech they hit
  • In btech lore there are examples of mechs being hit by multiple PPC's at once and shutting down either from heat or fried circuitry. Will this be possible?
Probably overpowered as a weapon if they could...
  • Do some of the maps have temperature bonuses?
I believe I've seen evidence of this somewhere.
    • ICE world allows more heat dispersion.

    • Jungle World heat builds up quicker
  • If we stand in water do we get better thermal dispersion?
Traditionally on heat sinks in the legs.
  • Can I burn a forest down with a flamer or catch grass a fire while wind spreads it for cover?
I'd bet this would be a massive programming and processing task so I wouldn't think it would be a launch thing.

I am curious to see if walking you mech into a lake will give you a quick cool down when over heating?

If by quick cooling, you mean increasing the speed the 4 heat sinks in your legs drop your heat, then yes.

Otherwise, watch your heat levels.

As for PPCs distorting coms, we will have NO, REPEAT NO, ingame VoIP software, so nothing is going to get in the way of my 3rd party client letting me talk to my lance mates.
