Hello, I've been playing MWO for several months and am really enjoying it. This is my first online multi-player computer game, and my computer is not giving me the graphics performance that I would like.

My computer's specs are:

AMD FX-6200 six-core, 3.80GHz
Radeon HD 7570, 2GB
1.5TB SATA hard drive
10GB DDR3
24" LCD at 1920x1080

I had thought that the computer specs were decent, but at the "Low" settings on MWO, I can barely get 20 FPS consistently. I'm assuming that my GPU is the culprit, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Assuming that I need a better GPU, could someone please recommend a good sub-$200 one that will work well on my computer and allow me to run MWO at higher settings (preferably with DX11, since it's supported now) and a better frame rate?

I've done a little research online already, but I have no prior experience with upgrading GPU's, so it's a bit confusing.

Also, if you have any reasonable (and cheap) suggestions for improvements other than a better GPU, please let me know.

Thanks!

[sigh]

You don't have to search the whole forum, Hoss: You just got'a search this one.

http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__3175356

I don't think anybody, anywhere, can say they know what video card any given CPU can make use of, as so few seem to beat upon their user.cfg; Ergo: Don't go spending money just yet.

I myself can't quite nail down what settings effect CPU more then GPU, and vice versa: Seems like a big step in the right direction, but no one's made it, yet …

For AMD GPUs, the second digit determines gaming performance -- the higher, the better (example: a 7770 would beat your 7570 in games, and a 7970 would beat the 7770). Find one in your price range with a higher second digit.

Probably the AMD R9 270x and maybe an update of the Driver to a Version that supports the Card.

The 14.2 Beta works well but you need to uninstall the old one first!

the best performing video card in the $150-200 range is the GTX 660 (I went and checked reviews to verify this), and this is the least expensive GTX 660 in the US that I can find- http://www.superbiiz...AS-660DC2O&c=CJ

Another thing that will help your performance, if you have a custom built computer and haven't already done it, is OC'ing your CPU.

OC'ing will def help you and a gtx 660 would be a nice card for that price range.

660 or 7850/R9 270 is likely top of what you could afford Under $200 (Checked prices from American PCPartPicker)

also, R9 270>660=7850

One thing about 270/270x (actually pretty much any R9 series card) right now, though they are sweet, the price has gone up and they are harder to find (usually backordered) due to BTC miners (damn them).

the R9 270 only gives about 2-3 more FPS (according to Tom's Hardware's review) and cost $60 more than the GTX 660(lowest priced GTX 660 could find compared to lowest priced R9 270 I could find). $60 is not worth 2-3 FPS.

looking at PC Part Picker, the cheapest 660 is a PNY for $149.99 at Micro Center after a $30 MIR, Cheapest R9 270 is a Gigabyte for $195.99 at Staples, that's a $46 Difference, if you ignore the MIR on the 660 that brings it down to a $16 difference

PNY GeForce GTX 660 VCGGTX660XPB: http://pcpartpicker....rd-vcggtx660xpb

Gigabyte Radeon R9 270 GV-R9270C-2GD: http://pcpartpicker....ard-gvr927oc2gd

YMMV with open box. I personally have ordered a handful of open box items off of Newegg including my ASUS gtx 760 and it came factory sealed. Never had an issue with the open box items I have ordered there. Anyway just throwing this out there....

Also a personal choice, but never install the drivers off a CD that comes with a video card. Go to Nvidia/AMD's website and download the drivers for whatever card you buy from there. Sometimes the ones on CD's are older and some can come with extra bloat. The only thing I load up from a graphics card disc is it's overclocking / monitoring software. Just my 2 C-Bills.

Thanks for the help, guys. I ordered this GTX 660 from Amazon:

Goose, I tried some of your tips with the user.cfg file, but they didn't help. I guess maybe my 7570 just can't keep up.

So, last night I removed my old HD 7570 and installed a shiny new GTX 660. I've got to say that the improvement is amazing! It's like putting on glasses for the first time and realizing all the details that you've been missing out on. I used to be forced to run the video setting on Low just to keep my framerate above 20 FPS. Now I'm able to bump it up to a mixture of High and Very High. Plus, the framerate is at least 50% faster under heavy load (mid-battle). Under light load conditions, it's about 3x faster.

Money well spent!
