Hi all, as the title says, i've just got a new VGA, and i'm having some issues with FPS.

Till yesterday, i was playing with a gtx430, at 720p with everyting on low except for textures, that i set to medium. I was getting a consistent 37 FPS, with a minimum of 29 in really frenetic situations(like LRM or ac2 spamming), but it was really stable.
Now, i've switched to a hd7770, and, even thought i'm having an fps at 1080p ranging from 75 to 47, depending on the settings, i'm gatting lots and lots of fps drops.
I've tried everythin, the repair tool, a clean reinstallation of the game, some tweaked user.cfg files, but nothing is changed. I'm getting lots of fps drops even if i set the resolution to 720p and set everything at low.

The weird thing is that yesterday i've played two or tree matches with the new vga, and everything was okay, than i've. Whene in the evening iv'e started playing again, the issues are begun.

My config is an i32100, 4gb ram at 1300, and the hd7770.

Any idea on how i could fix this problem?

Hi there. I play with a similiar PC and the issue with the FrameDrop is still on.My config is: I3 3240,8gb Ram (1600) and a 7790 Ati. I Think its the CPU that makes that problem.Dunno everything else is more than enough for decent FPS.

I'm not sure that the problem is the CPU, because with the old card i had no fps drops at all.
I've tried also other games, and everything is ok. It's just an mwo issue. and as i said, in the first matches everying was smooth and nice.

I remember a old bug that used to be very common with MWO where people could only play 2-3 games and they would have to restart the game or suffer major performance issues. Kinda wondering if this is the case here.

What graphics card drivers did you install? Did you use the provided disk, or did you download the latest drivers from AMD? I *HIGHLY* recommend giving the latest catalyst beta driver a shot:

http://support.amd.c...ndows-beta.aspx

These beta drivers include AMD Mantle support, which is SUPPOSED to increase performance across the board. The numbers they're claiming are impressive, but as of the beginning of January I moved to Nvidia, so I can't confirm/deny this personally.

The other thing to ask is, did the old nvidia card have more graphics memory than the 7770? Does the 7770 have GDDR3 instead of GDDR5? Having less or slower ram CAN cause FPS drop issues as it struggles to load upcoming rendering [overly simplistic explanation, I KNOW there are people on these forums that can explain it far better than I can]

PS: It has been fairly well documented that this game is CPU dependent and runs optimally on four core processors. dual core processors are generally regarded in the forums as not strong enough to keep up with the game client.

Your mileage may vary void where prohibited not available in Alaska, Hawaii, and NC [just because]

It is almost a guarantee that your dual core I3 is the issue. And u will not be able to fix the fps issue unless u can over clock or upgrade to a quad core cpu at 3ghz+

I've installed the latest non-beta drivers, the 13.12
Also, the old vga had 2gb ddr3, while the new has 1gb ddr5.

As for the cpu, i was already willing to do a bit of oc.But my question is, shouldn't i have been suffering all these fps drops even with the old card?

I've run the game with different settings and resolutions monitoring cpu gpu and ram usage:

@720p
low settings-> cpu 60% gpu 35% ram 1.5gb fps 80max 45avg 30min

medium -> cpu 65% gpu 60% ram 1.6gb fps 80max 40avg 27min

@1080p
low -> cpu 70% gpu 70% ram 1.5 gb fps 59max 50avg 30min

medium -> cpu 75% gpu 80% ram 1.6gb fps 58max 35avg 24 min

The cpu has never reached the 100%, while the gpu reached 100% only during the post match screen.
Also, i've suffered of fps drops in every match.

P.S.@stefchy: yeah, the game is playable, i'm used to a 30avg FPs, so tha'ts not the problem. The problem are the fps drops, that really ruin the gameplay.

Add a
sys_budget_videomem = 1024
to your user.cfg and let us know what changes …

It helped a lot. I'm still getting some rare drops, but just at the beggining of a match. Thanks!

Ideas to help
  • Make sure V-Sync is turned off
  • Force High process priority everytime the game starts (look into RadeonPro)
  • Set a Frame Limiter slightly higher than your average FPS so it won't vary as much (look into RadeonPro)
  • AMD's equivalent to NVidia's Maximum Pre-rendered frames is Flip Queue Size?

I'm starting to think that the problem is my PSU, that is quite old, and maybe it's no longer capable of delivering the listed 600w.
I say this because i'm now having also some crashes and BSODs related to the AMD driver, that fails and then is restarted. I may have to test other games based on cryengine 3 to see if it's a engine-specific issue or it's just this game that doesn't like my PC, because other games using different engines aren't causing me any problem.

are these crash'sin game freeze ups? where your grfx driver crash's that recovers itself? if so this is a very very common issue that alot of us are having. if so alt tabbing out and back into game fixes the freeze up.

I suspect the difference between the 1GB vs 2gb might have been part of the problem, as evidence by the improvement once you changed the setting in the .cfg

Also, might want to try doing a complete driver wipe and reinstall. While you are at it make sure you've gotten all the nvidia bits removed as well.

It is unlikely to be your PSU, as the 7770 is only supposed to need 95ish W. Your CPU and GPU combined are not likely pulling more than 180W, and likely significantly less. Plus PSU failures generally result in a complete system failure, not driver crashes.

I've already done that, using driversweeper and cheking myself for directories and register keys. i'm now downloading the beta drivers, i don't think it can help, but anything is worth a try.

Hmm, usually any issue with the gpu can lead to diver crashes (that in this case also lead to BSODs), even powering issues.

I wanted to say that this helped me immensely with the stuttering introduced with the dx11 patch. I have 6gb of vram so I added the integer 3072 instead of 1024 and everything became so smooth, smoother than ever. No kidding. There is just stuttering upon map loading, then everything goes real smooth. Everyone who is experiencing slowdowns should try adding that string.

Where do I add this?

I can only see a system.cfg and overide file. If i try to edit the system.cfg is just says access denied. When I create a new copy of the file and replace that file with the exact file plus new string the resolution just goes funny when the game starts.

Add it to your user.cfg file. It should be in the same directory as the system.cfg file. If it's not there - create it.
