I just wanted to say that the LRM buff was perfect. I don't run pure LRM boats, but a lot of my builds have LRM5s and 10s on them to give them a bit of reach. Before, it was largely just to exploit the [WARNING: INCOMING MISSILE] notification. People see that and duck back into cover without ever taking the time to notice that it was just an LRM5, and my brawlers could get in on people while they waited for the inevitable 50 LRMs they thought were coming. With the speed boost, the LRM5 isn't a joke weapon or a psychological weapon, and it is actually useful in damaging enemies at range now. It finally feels like you brought LRMs up to par with energy and ballistic weapons, and they're actually usable now.

To all the people getting up in arms about the buffed LRMs, remember that those missile hardpoints on mechs aren't there for show. Streak missiles have dominated the missile slots for months because LRMs are too slow to be useful and SRMs are bugged. I, for one, welcome the opportunity to get decent damage out of a missile hardpoint.

Remember, LRMs are countered by two separate 1.5 ton pieces of equipment, or decent cover. They spread damage more than our AC/PPC pop tart friends, and they're a lot more ammunition dependent. Wait out the period where everyone is testing the new toy and you'll see that LRMs will find a place. They'll certainly be used a lot more than before the buff, but I think they're much more balanced with the other weapon categories now.

Fully agree to OP.

People just don't realize that LRMs _seem_ to be OP because everyone is using them right now and whoever gets himself exposed dies in a shower of LRMS. Before that buff they would have been punished by AC/PPC poptarts.

Maybe LRMs are a bit too fast, but it takes more than a couple games during LRM-heavy patch day to analyse that correctly.

And people forget that the more LRMs a mech carries the more vulnerable it gets to light mechs and brawlers who are able to stay in cover while advancing. This is a serious disadvantage which together with the multiple counters make LRMs a high risk, high reward weapon.

Goodbye MWO. You can take this game and stuff it where the sun don't shine. You have degenerated into a game about who has the most LRM's. No fun . . . no play.

I havn't played in weeks but if everyone is using them that _means_ they are OP.

Youre saying youve never taken out a weapon or Mech thats just been tweaked to see how it changed? Most people do....THAT is why theyre seeing so much use right now.

If theyre still being used excessively in a couple weeks THAT means theyre OP ^_^

Everyone's using them because they're the new shiny toy. Kind of like when they released the Ember...it was everywhere.

The problem we've got right now is that there are a bunch of Light pilots that used to be able to out run them that are getting killed...their old tactic doesn't work anymore and they don't want to alter their style to fit the new "thing."

When the poptart meta got out of control, you had just as many whine and cry posts on the forums as we do about LRMs now.

Give it a few days, let the newness wear off, thing's will go back to what they were....you will just see those that use LRMs actually be a benefit to their teams as opposed to just taking up space like before the patch.

Me, I like the LRM speed buff. It makes even an LRM10 viable if you're going after someone that's been culled from the herd.

No, after one night of patches, people are using them to see what the speed buff did.

Bye bye, MWO. This game has degenerated into a contest of who can throw the most LRM's. Poppers are replacing ER PPC's, Gauss Rifles, and ER Large Lasers with Tags and NARC's. No real fighting left in this game. Too, bad. Could have been a great game. CeeYa!

LRM used in the amounts you guys experience right now were always as ******* stupid and strong as you experience right now. People just didn't realise it. Now they are even above that. Primarily for the reason of indirect fire.

I'd be interested in how Wispy is dealing with the change... Forum gossip has it he was deftly proficient at out maneuvering LRMs in his light Mechs...

What's funny is that the "poptart meta" is still alive and well. It's just that now, instead of Poptarts throwing pebbles at Lurmers on the playground, they're taking turns on the swingset like good little children.

Surmers are still off by themselves in the corner of the dodgeball game though ^_^

I am of a mind that if he was, he still is or will be again if he takes some time to find the maneuvers that work for him. ^_^

OP

LRM5s were never a joke weapon, they're the most accurate LRMs and the only ones unaffected by ghost heat. Adding LRM5s to other LRM launchers greatly increases the amount of damage you deal do the torso of a target, and LRM5s by themselves are very powerful for the amount of weight invested if enough are present on a mech. ( At least 4 )
I've tested various builds before this patch and I found that even with Artemis which makes them exactly as weight (in)efficient as LRM10s they were still worth using.
