FIX:

Get reconnect working.

There is no reason you shouldn't be able to reconnect back into your mech. Then set the game so you can't start another match until the first match is over the 5 minutes mark.

I don't care about punishing people at this point. But I played a bunch today, there were a TON of disconnects, and I don't feel like most of them were on purpose.

I pretty much never disconnect/crash, so I can't really understand why it happens. But it's super frustrating.

Had an assault match today, 3 guys disconnected immediately...we tried to defend but it wasn't pretty.

I would prefer if they left repair/rearm out. We had it before and it didn't stop farmers, actually I recall people saying they did it just so they could later run the builds that they wanted to run (since those builds costed a lot to fix). Plus R&R can increase the amount of people that run off and hide when damaged instead of being a team player and trying to help.

An easier and more intuitive reporting option would be very welcome though (but that can be said about a lot of things related to this game, groups, MM, lobbies, voip, etc.)

Have a reporting feature built into MWO?

Here's a related tangent. Back in college (this was a while ago) where I knew some guys that were playing this game called Shattered Galaxies. Now, it's still around and frankly I'm not entirely familiar with its development... but at the time, it was still in "beta" and it has an in-game reporting feature. Yes... in-game reporting feature. That was 2001. This is 2014. That is a completely multiplayer-online based game.. kinda like the game we have here.

Although, a quick related coincidence was that this particular game was released by Nexon... and IIRC didn't Paul work there?

Oh well... let's just keep the setting the bar lower.

IIRC, Ultima Online had an in game reporting feature as well. 1997 much?

Agreed with this. Set the game so that you can't start another game while you are still alive in your other one - instead, you have to reconnect. Also, you have to wait a minumum amount of time (5 minutes? 8 minutes?) to start a new game even if you are dead.

Server detects people who are completely AFK (still connected, but no input from the user for >50% of their time being alive) and eliminates all of their bonuses at the end of the match, then penalizes them so that they have to wait longer to join another game. First time? 15 minute wait, Second time? 30 minutes. Third time? An hour. Just keep doubling the time. AFKs would get forgiven after 30 days (so if you AFK once in a game, and 8 days later you do it again, the penalty is still 15 minutes) - this would make it so people who don't do it on purpose (i.e., you have to go to the hospital or something) don't suffer forever.

Same penalty as above if you spend >50% of the match disconnected.

Fixes people who DC due to crashes - they can come back.
Fixes people who DC to farm - they have to wait until the matches are over, they get no rewards, and they have to wait even longer to join new matches.
Fixes people who AFK to farm - they get no rewards, and they have to wait even longer to join new matches.
Doesn't need input from humans, because the algorithm is fairly low penalty for low-intensity offenders and accidental DC/AFK, and becomes a significant penalty for habitual offenders without causing a total ban.

The only unresolved problem from the above is the "suicide diver" players who die as quickly as possible in order to farm. It's impossible to separate these players from unlucky and/or bad players, however. You could probably do it by keeping track of the "alive time" for each player and making them wait longer and longer times as their "alive time" decreases; as this "alive time" increases, the penalty would become less and less.

That says more about you, than it does me? :D

:(

In 1997, I was just happy to be on the Internets running Win95. The internets were a lot more serious in 2001, when WinXP debuted (Win2K was actually pretty glorious at the time). I was pretty sure WinXP didn't need a service pack to report errors/bugs back to MS...

What the hell is Chinese farming?

I disconnect manually from time to time for various reasons and it's not for c-bill farming.

A person should be free to disconnect any time they damn well please.

Question for you op. What sort of punishment should there be for someone who suddenly discovers they are going to be late for work, school or for what other reason that has nothing to do with this game?

Says more about your time management/situational awareness than anything else.

^

Dota2 has it an it works great, mainly in that if you disco, you get a disconnect strike, do it 3 times or something and you cant play for whatever period of time is set (havnt tried to find out)

That and if your currently in game, you cant start another one unless you disconnect,
And the only safe way is if someone else disconnects then game says its safe to leave and stats arnt saved

Just.. Lol ask the dota devs bout their system?

So the rest of that player's team should have to fight a man short because he decided to drop in a match they had no time to play? That's not a technical issue. That's also not a habitual (and if it is then I have no sympathy) practice of griefing a team. If it happens once in a while then they shouldn't be punished for it.

It's getting worse, day by day!!!

Dozen of people log in with a trial mech or whatever, and they just disconnect or either go afk immediately.

And more and more people is starting to do it.

Reason? It's convenient.

There is no penalty in doing that, only less c-bills on this wannabe chinese-farming method.

Please get back some repair cost in the game, something that will penalize those useless players...

And of course the known issue that literally hundreds if not thousands of people (extrapolating from the Forum reports in teh patch feedback thread to the entire playerbase) have what appear to be unexplainable CTDs since the 4th of March ( an issue that Matthew Craig has publically acknowledged and support is actively trying to track down) has absolutely nothing to do with this, right? :D

For example, I haven`t been able to finish a single match since the patch despite a good week of tweaking this and tuning that, and decided to wait for the 18th until I try again. But I am not everybody, I have a relatively full RL... others on teh other hand may still be trying to get it to work. :(

But of course we`re all farming, even though it is by far the most ineffective way to do so... *facepalm*

Nobody is suggesting that. Habitual discos will show patterns. People who disco because they don't like a map will show just that. Players who disco to farm will show that pattern as well. I'm sure they'll also be able to see players from across the seas that have tech issues.

Not all disconnects are intentional and some disconnects don't show up as disconnected and look like they are AFK.

That said - If you come across a player who you believe is doing it intentionally, please report him to support@mwomercs.com, with any evidence you might have collected. As this concludes a violation of the Code of Conduct and / or the griefing rules for MWO. This evidence includes, but is not limited to:
- Name Player
- Map played
- Date, time and timezone
- Type of offense
- Other players involved (witnesses)
- Screenshots
- Links to videos or other material that might prove usefull to the GMs to solve the case.

Thread closed, as discussing these things will not help preventing them. Instead they might advertise it to a broader spectrum of players who will try it, therefore increasing the problem.
