First and foremost this is not a THE FIRESTARTER IS OP THREAD.:-)
Good light drivers can ruin any mechs day and I've fell victim to just about all of them at some time or another but no other mech has had me to rethink some of my load outs to deal with them.I can usually deal with most lights as most of them aren't packing some serious firepower and can take their abuse till help arrives or I outright kill them or run them off but the firestarter is a different animal.I have learned that you better deal with them asap because time is not on your side.I'm not seeing them as light hunters but more like heavy and assault killers(the classes I mostly play).I used to run lrms on several mechs but now they all carry streaks and bap, other mech are being retro fitted for lbx10s .I've seen a lot of heavys and assaults fall prey to them by being rapidly cored out in the back(sneaky little buggers).I know other lights can do this also but man o man do 4mgs,4medium lasers or 6 to 8 mediums get it done fast.I have actually liked being forced to change up builds and play style to deal with them.Have anyone else switched it up a bit to deal with them?:-)
I play to have fun and fun is what I'm having.:-)

Well I can't really say that it (the Firestarter) has changed my load outs much because my load out usually where made for anti-light and I just learned how to use them for bigger mechs. For example just about every missile point on a medium mech is a streak srm 2 and then it usually has 1 or 2 energy weapons to go with.

For example, Griffon 3M I have 4 streak srm 2s and a large pulse laser. With this load out I usually just run off every light mech that comes near more or I go and leg them for the kill. When it comes to bigger things like assault mechs I try to use the mediums mech ability to stay in the back arc because I don't have the alpha weapons to take them down quickly.

As someone who plays them I agree, I would rather take on an assult than a light. Energy only loadouts suffer in light vs light combat (energy/missle) does it much better. The MGs are also alot more difficult to focus on a fast light (obviously) than a slow assult.

Thank you.

i bought them as my first light mech. FS9 are great vs heavier oponents but weak vs other lights.

Have anyone else switched it up a bit to deal with them?

Hmm, no.. i suck vs lights. So i try to bring anti light weapons as often as i can.

Firestarter is a giant killer, not a dog fighter like the jenner.

Lol yeah I was stomping around in my stalker and just fell over dead a few times,I was like (what just nuked me from orbit),then I saw it happen to an atlas,a firestarter just melted him down from the back in no time flat.I was like wow gotta get me some streaks, bap and seismic sensor. :-)

I was thinking about this earlier, and I have to agree; it doesn't dog fight like a jenner, but the engagements against heavies feel easier somehow. I am guessing that all those hard points beg to be used, making it a great striker. What you need to watch for is one or two of these working in concert with a medium. It really shines when it has a bigger brother around.

I've been seeing a lot of firestarters doing more damage than most heavys and assaults lately.I'm no longer bothered by other lights in the least unless its the Jenner with 6 medium lasers and even that one seems easier to kill off than a firestarter.I have now configurations of heavys and assaults with streaks to help keep them ran off, seems to work really well currently. I also have tried duel even triple lbx10s but that just gives up too much weight to contend with them and hampers damage for bigger targets at range.I have ran medium pulse but my excessive coffee drinking keeps my aim off to be useful with them.:-)

I've also been watching extremely effective Firestarter swarms going after the big 'mechs. I've changed a lot of load outs to have more streaks and BAP to at least try to deter them.
