when they introduce 1v1, which i assume sometime after clans invade; what will be the downside to taking a clanner mech in 1v1?
mmm. so that will mean most clanner accounts will go for some gamemodes so they can probably have a consistant advantage, and IS accounts are better left not to 1v1?
or does it have separate leagues for different accounts.
where do mercs fit on this picture?

There will be no 1v1 mode unless you use private matches with premium accounts. Based on my understanding of Clan tech as the devs have presented it, they intend for Clan and IS mechs to be approximately equal but different. We can't speculate further until we get solid data.

Less flexibility in customizing your mechs.

The downside is that you have to deal with hardwired Flamers stuck in your CT, horribly undersized or oversized engines, Ferro Fibrous used in place of Endo Steel, and/or not being able to place ammo in your legs.
Oh, and
heat. Lots and lots of
heat.

It is much faffing and fury for nothing to speak of in the end.
