The Salute, Mechwarrior Style

Typically, in days of old, warriors would salute each other before engaging in battle.

In Mechwarrior, a Salute is done right after drop, that is if your Mech has a large laser or ER large laser. Aim at the sky in the general direction where you suspect the opposition might be, and let off a single shot.

I fear that many would accuse you of noob status for doing that in the game these days.

Maybe the more contemporary "GL HF" or 07 salute should suffice.

And I'd be among them. Joyfire, defined as any weapon discharged without the intent to do damage to the enemy, is always a bad thing that stems from bad play. It's all fun and games until someone loses an ST.

No maybe about it.

Edit for clarity. I don't accuse anyone of anything. I make that decision internally, and spend the opening of the match trying to get first behind and then away from joyfire players. I've got enough problems as it is with the enemy trying to shoot me. I don't need someone without fire discipline accidentally shooting me in the back, or later shooting through me to get at a target. I don't want to rely on a pilot next to me who hits "launch" without taking some time in the testing grounds, getting to know his loadout and/or his maps before he drops.

So I'll never accuse you of being a n00b clown for joyfiring. But at the same time, I'm going to get as far away from you as I can.
