Mwo: 2000 Matches Later....

I am a founder, and a phoenix backer, and I just really don't feel the game is what my personal vision is of what it could have been. Features we were promised aren't here, game balance is god awful, and things that need to be fixed, and have needed fixing linger on as they are, as the Dev's continue to monetize everything.
I admit I'll probably buy the Masakari pack, because I love the clan mechs, but what they've described as their implementation system leaves me quite wary of giving them any money whatsoever.
Like many Old school fans, I had high hopes. I've played every BT/MW game out there, I'm still an active player at one of the few Tesla II podbays in the US, not to mention a lifelong tabletop player. I didn't come into this game expecting perfection, total adherence to Lore, or TT rules, but I expected more than CoD with mechs.
I know, I know, Pugging isn't the real experience some would say. It's all about joining a clan, fighting with allies against other clans and stomping the pugs. If the PUG experience is bad though, people won't stick around to get to the point where they want to be a part of a clan though. PUGging is where the game must be sold to the casual gamers.
I'm not great at the game, pretty far from it, but I get by, and admit freely there are times where I really enjoy the game. it can be amazing stress release. I just hope that the problems with the game are fixed soon, and some real content is added, Not just new mechs and maps.
At any rate, i'm going to keep on playing, down in the trenches as it were. At least until PGI destroys my faith in them completely. I'm looking forward to June, and hopefully between now and then real information on Clan weapons, equipment, and configurations.
I want this game to succeed, and prosper, I just think it's time they finally got around to doing it.

I am coming close to 11K matches base on stats (should be more than that since I have been around since CB)
My house used to have 30-40 players at any time doing drops as well as 8 mans at any time...
Now all of that is gone.... Primary reason for me I believe is that people were expecting CW to make its appearance in 2012 !!
We all know what happen to that story...
If you want stress it was 8/12 man matches... That is the end game of MWO... Decked out mechs versus decked out mechs !! This where strategy and tactics came in to win a match.... (I know some used that boring brute assault force method.. Boring !

Hiaz.... CW doesn't look like it going to happen man... it is just.. mech mech mechs...

there are so many things that really need to be in this game that are absent.
i know the concept is stuck in the back of the fridge under a heavy layer of freezer burn, but i'm an old timer MW guy. a traditional campaign based game with this engine would be amazing.

In 12 mans, well, it can get very boring without restrictions. In MCWIII the position rounds have an arty restriction, along with some rounds having no JJ, PPCs or ECM. Those matches were actually very fun, with the restrictions. A bit more strategy when you couldn't jump snipe+arty them to death.
But I guess everyone has their own views on fun.

I remember the PC Gamer issue too, kinda sad that nothing in it save the Highlander is actually here. I'd love a campaign mode, honestly anything more than what we have, the same two game modes since forever, with a third that's a retread without bases.

No....poptarting is for the REAL players...

...But seriously...tonnage limits. I want that more than anything in this game. I truly hope it changes things.

I agree with pretty much everything you said, but sadly COD is the "casual" group they are trying to attract. I want a steeper learning curve, I want more immersion, but I am a minority and I have had to accept it.
I long for a single player that's more sim like to get my fix, but I'm confident no matter how many posts I make or beg for it. Again I'm the minority and will be overlooked. It's not that they don't care more like they can't afford to care.
Just the sad truth. Good sim games are dead. In a world where Flappy Bird reigns supreme my days of enjoying good games may be numbered. It's all about kill, kill, kill, twitch, twitch, twitch, games don't even tell stories anymore. Guess it's time to start reading

Pugs definitely need some love, the way that things currently play out is not going to keep to many people around. There definitely needs to be a better form of communication for pugs. Whether it be a coms wheel, or VOIP. Almost anything is better than the current setup that requires a person to type while fighting for survival. No matter the makeup of a team, they stand a better chance of surviving with good tactics. Unalike many other modern games that claim to need tactics, this one really does need them. It is such a beautiful thing to see, but ever so rare.

While the Flappy Bird deal is pathetic when it comes to gaming, I'm a game optimist simply based on the sheer number of what I consider "real" gamers. Combine the console players with the PC players (I know a large percentage of them is one in the same... I am) and we've got a huge gamer base. My point is, while Flappy Bird or many of those other stupid ass Facebook games may be popular I don't think there's a real big need for those of us that play these much more in depth games to worry. I believe the demand is there.
I wonder if this game wasn't F2P and instead developed and sold like most others if PGI would have included a single player mode. With that kind of development time and potential gross earnings I think a lot more could have been added to the game. But you're right, a single player sim mode with the graphic and gameplay design that MWO currently has, has the potential to be very good.

I'd love to have a single player campaign like very other MW title, but let's face it if they'd done that, we'd have never gotten a game because they would never have gotten the financial backing that releasing it like this has gotten them.

Oh man I've always wanted to try one of those, they had a few in DFW when they first came out but I missed the chance.
Any still in Austin, TX? or Portland? I've got some frequent flyer miles saved up, would def. use on a Tesla Pod weekend.
Where do we meet and who do I pay?

I'm conflicted.
I agree with everything you've said, but then I read that you are going to BUY more stuff from them. They monetize the crap out of everything and let needed improvements stagnate and you are still rewarding them.
Don't you see the problem here? The Dev's are not going to be motivated to change what they are doing as long as many of us continually throw money at them out of "hope" for improvement. It's never going to happen but if we wanted to see some movement, a solid month of no purchases from the community would catch their attention and they would suddenly make changes.

So far they've not done that. If they continue, then I'll just save c-bills and grind it out, eventually i'll be able to play with clan tech without giving them real money, Though I'll likely walk away awhile until they're available as such.

Would it have killed them to just make a forum post about this sort of stuff?
I REALLY don't have the patience to sit through an hour and a half plus of podcast just to find out about things that were promised to us two years ago.
