So since this is the "General" section of the forums and it happens to have a sub-section specifically for mechs, I figured I'd ask a question then give my opinion on the matter.

Whats is your favorite assault-class mech in the entire BattleTech Universe?

Mine would have to be a Jupiter 2. Simply because I think it is different from an Atlas, Highlander, Dire Wolf or any of the other "common" mechs. Not to mention that 2x ER PPCs, 2x UAC/10 and 2x Artemis-IV LRM-15s is a pretty impressive loadout. Another plus is that it is 100-tons with JJs.

I guess yet another reason would be from reading the Mechwarrior: Dark Age novels and whenever that mech would show up in the book, something died.

Mine would have to be the Warhawk (As Pariah Devalis suggested it is the "Reaper" of the battlefield)


The runner ups would have to be the Supernova (Although arguably the sexiest Assault mech)


And Dire Wolf (Hard to argue with this beast)

still love the MW· Supernova. Might be my fave Clan Assault. That or the Warhammer IIC

There are five assault mechs i love and these are in no order the highlander( please being collision back in so i can DFA), the victor, the Mauler (what need i say about this iconic mech from the MW2:Merc box), the Direwolf and my final Fav assault is the Kodiak a great clan mech thats not an omni, Sure it might have some heat issues but it has enough firepower and speed to charge for a 100 tonner.

WHAT! Damn Bishop Ive never seen your Annihilator art! I too would like to see the Annihilator more than any other assult, especially if it looks that great. The only thing I would change is to make it taller, I remeber feeling like I was piloting a mobile skyscraper with guns.

Yeah, reducing the legs was a deliberate gamble.

My issue being that the 8.5 ton reactor, 48 tons of autocannons, 4 tons of ammo, 4 medium lasers, 4 of it's 18 external heatsinks, 9.5 tons of it's armor, 7 tons of it's internal structure, it's 3 ton cockpit and 2 ton gyro are all above the waist. that's 90 tons of upper body structure vs 10 tons of leg structure, armor and heatsinks.

Factor in a top speed of 32 KPH and long strides were not a factor, and since it's armament and relatively light armor all beg for CQB, defense and city fighting, a tall silhouette seemed counter to it's designed role. Add in the balance issue of precariously mounting 4 heavy recoiling cannons into a significantly top heavy mech, and I simply could not justify the long legs of the original design.

I see you had good intentions with the squat leg design, but if they do introduce the Annihilator I bet they would make it titanic.

Fafnir and Bane. I love those.

Bane has a sleek frontal profile and high mounted guns. Beautiful and radically different design.

Fafnir is a brick with monstrous gauss rifles. It looks rugged and deadly. In terms of MWO mechanics, talk about a glass cannon!
