For the DEVs

Any chance of the following...

Rain
Acid rain
Fog
Snow
???
  • Any advancements in environmental affect/effects other then what is present?

You know... Weather & such.

Having them play a part in the immersion.

Thank you for your time

Caustic valley is actually raining If you have it on high graphics settings. Acid rain at that. Frozen City has random blizzards that obscures vision.

Its certainly not a lot, but its in there.

I like the suggestion of fog, that'd be very cool! :P and not something simple, i mean, dense fog!, thermal vision would be a must!

It really isn't. Your posts seem awfully... troll like. Sure it's something to add, but such things ARE already in place, just not in every map.

I'm not a troll nor ever will be.

I cannot be held accountable for feelings
  • Once again why are you not supporting this?
  • Why not on all planets?
  • Is it not a planet?
  • Where is the weather?
AUSwarrior24
So you disagree, cool.

Why is it not a must?

I am offering great advice, Why?

Because no one does this.

Everyone has gone meta in regards to making Games.

They know what sells & regurgitate hard work of others with slight differences.

If your going to comment on my posts, Please keep it constructive.

Sorry to say but It takes one to know one aye, Even if you've changed.

Thank you for your time

That works both ways; you have to understand your suggestions are not always going to work, nor are people going to always agree.

I'll try and be more constructive then. Not every map should have a weather condition, simply because not every map needs one. Certain maps, like the snow one which the name I forget, occasionally have snow storms, while there's also night maps, etc etc... but not every map needs something unique that specifically changes the way people play on it. Sure, add a few in. Just not every map.

As I've stated in your other posts, the game can't conform to your exact desires, but it's limited by what it is (read: NOT a hardcore sim) and the fact that a lot of different players play it, each with very different views.

Also, remember that every single added graphical feature adds load to the computers. We have many players whose machines can barely play the game as it is. And even high-horsepower gaming machines still have dips to 40 FPS in every single map.

Greetings all,

Yes, all of our maps do indeed have setting for most if not all the suggestions the OP has addressed.

- Each map has settings for fog, or clouds, with multiple levels of height or volumetric density.
(most have this turned off or set to '0')

- Each map has settings for sky view, star field, and sky colour, as well as day and night.
(as some have specific elements that are only visible on that map, ie: FrozCityNight with stars and aurora.)

- Each map has settings for rain, blowing snow and amount of density.
(as seen on FrozCity, snowstorms that randomly blow in)

There are no visible controls for falling snow, but the rain particles could be changed to sizes that would indicate snow flakes. And there speed would also need to be adjusted. This one is much more complicated as snow tends to cover and fill in ground terrain the longer it falls. As well as creating steam as it lands of hot objects, or ice on melting and freezing.
(we do see some ice fields on 'Alpine' but it does not effected any functions of the Mech's. Although there should be some loss of steering for very fast light Mechs that attempt aggressive turns while on this material. - surface traction, slipperiness. But would probably be linked to fall down/knockdown aspects.)

Most if not all these items or environments are standard CryEngine components and have multi levels of application. As was stated by others, the more atmospheric entities that are enabled the higher the load on systems. As PGI refines the game and Engine code we may start to see additional atmospheric and environmental effects be placed into the game. These environmental effects should not be able to be 'turned off' through the settings, reduced perhaps, but never eliminated. As this would change the gameplay for Pilots that are running on max settings against others set to low, and could be used as a form of 'cheating' by being able to 'see through' what others can not.
(something similar is currently happening with maps that have trees, as low settings nearly eliminate these otherwise visible obstacles. One Pilots see's 50-60 trees blocking his view, while the other simply see's none.)

There's a permanent blizzard on the lower starting areas on Frozen city.

If there are already setting and functions for different weather conditions or time, than PGI should use them. IMO it would be more interesting to play the game if there were some variations on each map and not almost every time the same stuff, which we have since months. And it seems to me, that they have already a working systems for random weather/time selection, as it works on some maps. Come on PGI, give us al maps with different conditions.

HPG maybe not or under extremly bright light ...

Greetings all,

I would like to see the HPG map present a rotating planetoid, it's listed as being the 3rd body in its system. So the surface should transition from night to day, with changes in the ambient temperature.

- We currently visit this location in the night with a temperature of - 10C.
- We need the other daytime version of this location,

~ perhaps with some form of sensor interference from the class F4 sun, there is no atmosphere to block or reduce effects from the system sun.

On just general weather effects, there seems to be some issue or problem with implementing visually correct weather effects. If it's raining there should be accumulation of water forming puddles and runoff. We currently don't even see the ground getting wet or our Mech's showing rain effects like wet materials or steam from heat.
- As was stated, the more particles and atmosphere that is displayed the higher the processing requirements needed.
- If some players have a sub par system and 'turn off' these effects then they basically have a clearer view and this could lead to those that can see and others that can't.
(similar to what we have now with terrain trees, on low settings these are nearly gone. On higher settings they obscure players views.)

Would I like to see fog roll in on maps? Heck, yes.
- Using weather effects to swing the outcome of battles is quite a commonly used element, in real life.
- Heavy rain that makes night and thermal vision useless is very useful.
- Flooding of some locations on the maps would also be great for a change, say forest colony during high tide.
(how else did that ship get there?)
- Might I suggest an occasional 'sand storm' for Tourmaline, with razor sharp partials of that material that reduce energy weapons effectiveness over distance.

But these weather effects need to be 'across the entire spectrum of visual settings' and can not be 'turned off'.

Just some ideas,

You know what, Covert really likes bullet points. Through my many arguements with him, i've determined that he likes to express all of his thoughts in a given time and he uses bullet points to deliver them. Its very interesting.
