So have you tried the machine gun range mod?
Im thinking of buying it for my 3xMG shadowhawk, maybe he can actually become effective, anyone tried this mod, and what are your impressions?
I would also like to know if the hill climber mod is worth it, have trouble with walking on my new banshee.

You have 3 ballistic hard points and you fill them with MGs?!

Yes i have a bunch of srm for main weapon. I can run ac10 or ac2s in my other shads.
So how effective is the smg range increase?

Machine gun range only add 5 meters. Not that great, but if you have an extra slot after your artillery and air strike, it can be useful.
Hill climb doesn't help diddly. The change is just not enough.

None of the weapon mods are worth anything.
You're always better off carrying something like artillery or an airstrike.

Your options are;
3 MG
3 AC/2
1 AC/5 + 2 AC/2
2 AC/5 + 1 AC/2
3 AC/5
1 Large AC + 2 MG
Mediums and Lights don't really get to try many "interesting" ballistics en masse.

I find the Phract 4X + AC/5 Range Module works quite well. I agree otherwise.

The spray on MGs makes them useless at their max range anyway. Don't waste your XP, C-bills or module slots.

What spray?, they are a hitscan weapon. The animation is just for show as far as I am aware...

They're hitscan, but they have a built-in inaccuracy. Try firing them at the Training Grounds mechs. At 120 meters, the spread will actually hit all 3 sections of an Awesome's torso when aimed dead center.
That's right. Not even an Awesome's CT is bigger than the MG's spread.
