It's a common question. Long as you've been around I'd think you'd know.
Paint is common and can be used on anything. There's even cbill paints under Basic.
Camo patterns are either single use (just that mech and stays until you sell or change the pattern) or "unlock" which allows you to put it on and change it whenever you please for all variants of the same mech chassis.
Example if you unlock woodland for the Atlas, it's available on all non-hero Atlas variants old and new.

Yeah, as above - Colours are unlocks.
Camo is either one-use, or per chasis.
Colours are a bit pricey to be honest.
Camo spec is ridiculous.
I bought 4 on sale, and that was still 1000MC (£3).
I pay that for 2 pots of real paint.
At 750MC per chasis, camo unlocks are just... too much.
If it was for ALL mechs, I'd have bought some.

Just whenever you plan to get a hero mech, snag some extra MC and let the paint or patterns soak up the 'extra' MC you can't use on heroes or premium.

I only get paint when it's on sale and only 2-3 at a time. I now have a few of most colors and haven't felt the need to really buy more for awhile.
I got the cbill paints when they first restructured the paint system and were 50% off. I don't like any of them and recommend that no one buy them. They are too dark and dull and don't go well with each other or any other colors. The default green might be the best one if only because totally default green mechs look ok ingame (not cbill red, or cbill orange...)

+1 on the -1 on the c-bill colors. Bought one and never use it.
