Pay attention to the slide on focusing on graphics over gameplay. It is something to ponder.

For me, I will take a game with a strong core rule set over shiny looks any day of the week. I still play Masters of Magic weekly (on patch 1.40N). I'm still in the Civilization franchise since Civ 2 due to game quality based almost entirely on ruleset.

That's fine, but you haven't explained the rule set in MechWarrior terms and how that game could do the same thing here.

FF is a very old game line, very similar to in age to Mechwarrior, both of which have a strong fan base. FF focused on looks over gameplay and it suffered, read the attached slides.

MWO looks good, but its core rule set is generally not great and it shows. I'm giving the example of another online game that went the pretty route but didn't think the rules thoroughly through. It took 6 months to get ECM to a place where its generally acceptable by the majority of the player base. SRM's have been gone for 6 months. Focused fire allowing instantaneous hits has been fixed by putting in ghost heat, which most people despise the mechanism but likes the effect.

The core rules has almost gotten gameplay back to as good as place as it was before open beta. But its still a mess and they are planning on introducing clans in a few months. Which, I'm sure the mechs will look great, but the if it takes 12 months to get the ruleset close to where it was 2 years ago, no thanks.
