Favorite Chassis - N/A
Best Mech- N/A
I'm a Davion pilot. The only Light of which I have access is the Locust and, well, yeah.
- Medium Mechs
Favorite Chassis - Cicada
Best Mech - CDA-3M/CDA-2A
- Heavy Mechs
Favorite Chassis - Jagermech
Best Mech - Firebrand
- Assault Mechs
Favorite Chassis - Victor
Best Mech - Victor 9S
- Hero Mechs

Best Hero - Firebrand
For me, I have mechs that I enjoy, I have mechs that I try to make work (Shadowhawk - hate it!), and then mechs that I want to like but just don't work (poor Locusts and Awesomes). I love my bugs and my Victor is my closer.

Fun fact nearly all of my favorites are fastest in class, and I run them as such. Speed is a weapon!

Favorite: Jenner
Best: JR7-F
I think the Jenner has the best balance between speed (152.7 KPH with an XL300 and Speed Tweak), armor, and firepower among any given Light. The fastest Light sacrifices fifteen tons of firepower and armor for speed (The Locusts can reach 169.3 KPH with Speed Tweak). For the size, it's deadly when piloted correctly.
Mediums
Favorite: Shadowhawk
Best: It's been too long since I've played a Medium for me to remember
Mediums are fidgety, and the most variable of any weight class. There are more chassis available and more variants per chassis. I own Shadowhawks, Wolverines, Griffins, Kintaros, and that Champion Centurion that they gave out for winning five matches.
Heavies
Favorite: Orion
Best: ON1-K
Realistically, this 'Mech could be swapped for the Trial Cataphract CTF-3D[C] and there would be little difference. The only real reason I picked the Orion is because I like how it looks.
Assaults
Favorite: Atlas
Best: I'm decent with the AS7-D-DC, AS7-D, or AS7-RS
The first chassis I owned. They're expensive and, if piloted correctly, end up tearing through 'Mechs. One word of caution: NEVER use an XL Engine with this chassis. It's a powerhouse on its own--putting a larger engine in it only opens it up to more weaknesses. Since the torsi often house the more powerful weapons (especially now that LRMs have been revamped) and ECM on the AS7-D-DC, they are often the first to go, so an XL means that you would last nowhere near as long as you would hope.
Heroes
Favorite: Jenner
Best: JR7-D[S]
I call this 'Mech a Hero because I think of it as one. It fits the specifications of a Champion in that it has no different hardpoints or features, but this 'Mech feels like a Hero when I pilot it.

Favorite Hero - Heavy Metal / Grid Iron

The Light chassis is skewed for me because I only own 3; Raven 3L, Jenner D(S), and Locust 1V(P). Of course I can't sell the Locust because it's a Phoenix so my choices are between 2 mechs actually. I like the chicken walker and don't like how the Jenner looks running (the Cicada's run animation is the sexiest BTW).
The Medium mechs. Well, I have always like the boxy mech look ie. Hunchback, Summoner, Hellbringer mechs that have a squarish upper torso and thick legs. But I have done better in my 2H with the Griffin 3M right behind it.
The Heavy was a toss up Orion and Cataphract but I went with the older favorite.
The Assaults are all about my Highlander. Been a fan of the look ever since the Battletech CCG card with the midnight blue HGN with the skulls in the joints.

Overall I like Assaults best, but seem to perform best in Heavies with the notable exception of my new Banshee 3E. Conceptually I like being the beast on the battlefield that wades in swinging, but I'm much better at performing in a more reactionary role where I respond to the flow of the battle and commit as needed to help the team. That requires more mobility than an Assault can provide, so I use Heavies and sometimes Mediums to fill the role.
I really wish they'd put full-on TT-style collision damage in the game. I love lights, but I'm the type of player who drives in a more "real world" style - I actively try to avoid running into things, which isn't the most effective way to play MWO. If they'd put in TT-style collision damage, though, lights and mediums would have to play more realistically because constantly running into enemy Assaults would cause them too much damage. Nothing ruins immersion for me like getting face-hugged by a light that's jumping around all UT2003-style, constantly running into things and bouncing off them like they're rubber.

Question for you 3rd:
All of those mechs are obviously meta capable. Is your best/favorite a function of them being meta or would they still be your favorite if you took them in a different direction?

Well, the Jenner can't really go in another direction.
The Shadow 2d2 is capable of just about anything as far as mediums go. AC/20 & PPC, SRMs, Streaks, it can do it all. It has great hitboxes as well. I have used it in other fashions, but the AC/5x2 & PPC is what I used to run on the TBT-7K (my old favorite med) but the shadow does it better with JJs.
I run the CTF in many different ways. For a Marik drop it may be dual gauss, 4Mls & AC/20, or the traditional 2PPC AC/10. It is my favorite because of its incredible versatility. Other than carrying missiles it is great at just about everything. The AC/20 + 2LL was my favorite, before the 20 nerf. Now I am more likely to run the 4Mls to get the additional speed.
My favorite STK-M build isn't exactly "meta" with AC/20 & 3LLs but I do run it AC/20 ERPPC&PPC. The banshee is with AC/5x3 & PPCx2, but it is mostly my new favorite because it plays much like the misery, but more deadly.
So I guess yes. They would still be my favorite using non-meta builds, and my favorite builds, except for the shadow & banshee, are non-meta. I run meta quite a bit, playing who I play on a regular basis makes you need to be in practice with them. But I enjoy and run non-meta as much or more.

well, eventually, y'all will master your Yugos, and when you do, we got plenty of Ferraris for you to try. But real Steiners prefer Porshces.

Favorite - Raven 3L
Best - Raven 3L
My only light at the moment and the only one I've played that I ever got results in.
Medium Mech
Favorite - Golden Boy
Best - (oddly enough) Golden Boy
Man I love this thing. I know, I know, it's probably one of the worst mediums in the game, at least on paper, but when I play this mech, and play it right, I tear it up. Love it.
Heavy Mech
Favorite - Orion
Best - Jager, specifically the Firebrand
Love the Orion chassis, just never seem to do well in it.
Assault Mech
Favorite - Atlas, by far
Best - Lately, the Victor.
Used to be that the Atlas was king of the battlefield, unfortunately not so much recently. I probably logged more time in my founders Atlas than in any other three mechs I own combined.
Hero Mech
Favorite - Golden Boy/Firebrand/Boar's Head
Best - Golden Boy
I love all three but the GB tops the list. Again, I feel like I'm probably alone here but damn do I love this mech. The other Kintaros can do the same stuff, and some of them do it better, but none of them ever measured up for me.

Light:
Favorite - Raven 3L
Best - Locust 3S (yea, suprisingly)
Medium:
Favorite - Hunchback 4P "Swayback" (Just beat out the Shad 2H)
Best: Shadow Hawk SHD-5M
Heavy:
Favorite: Catapult K2
Best: Catapult C1

Assault:
Favorite: Victor VTR-9B
Best: Battlemaster BLR-1G
Hero:
Favorite: Ilya Murromets
Best: Ilya Murromets
(P.S. Only other Hero is the Misery and it is the worst mech I own IMO).
I left out the 1 Jager I had (JM6-DD) because I ran it 30 matches using purely meta A/C40 build well before the nerfs. Technically the Jager should be the "Best" Heavy KDR wise, but I couldn't bring myself to list it (due to meta abuse and stats comprised well before the nerfs that would effect this chassis).

Med: Shadowhawk 2d2
Heavy: Catapult K2
Assault: NONE
And I pretty much don't play anything but those 3 mechs.
