how can 4 gigs of ram be required when the os is only 32 bit and only officially supports 3 gigs? is this a typo?

Since RAM is installed in pairs, and technically it's 3.85 gigs with GPU and mobo RAM it's close, when was the last time you saw two 1.75GB sticks? Unbalanced RAM is worse than low shooting (because addressing it cleanly becomes a real issue).

They are stating it for suscinctness mainly since it isn't exactly 3GB's either, nor is it 4GB but at that point rounding is more reasonable, honestly do you want to know that your 32bit system is able to address ~4,294,967,296 Bits (less due to overhead and such) or 4GB max?

my point is that this is in the minimum specs. not all ram is intalled in pairs and im not asking this cause i need to know for myself. my computer far exceeds these my neighbor would like to know.

it's mostly because you can't buy 3 gb dual channel kits. You can run 3 gb of RAM in dual channel by running 2 1gb sticks and 2 512mb sticks(I've done this before), but as for being able to actually purchase 3gb dual channel kits, they just don't exist.

sigh.....im not sure when this became a question of whether you could get 3 gigs of ram or if you could get 3 gigs in dual channel because thats not what i asked. all i asked was if 4 gigs of ram is really required to play this game

That means that it takes up to 3 GB in 32bit mode, but no modern processor uses single channel RAM and dual channel RAM is more stable than a system from someone who doesn't know better just tossing in three 1GB sticks, given that they don't make 1.5GB RAM DIMMs. And given that minimum requirements tend to lead to new system builds, two 2GB DIMMs are cheaper than getting two 1GB and two .5GB DIMMs, not to mention they're not available for modern DDR3 systems. lol

Actually, 32 bit operating systems do use (address is the actual term) 4 gb of RAM. What you don't understand is that 4 gb include all RAM in the system, including video card RAM. You have a 1 gb video card right?

BTW, how should we know exactly how much RAM MW:O is going to need? None of use are in the BETA, so none of us have played MW:O. And if anyone in this forum is in the BETA, WTH ARE THEY DOING HERE INSTEAD OF TESTING(PLAYING) MW:O?

Those of us making suggestions and answering questions are doing so on what Russ stated in the last information release and what we know about how different hardware performs compared to other hardware.
