Seems to me that those willing to invest 80,000 CBills per match on Arty and Airstrike will have a much greater chance of winning this weekend's tournament.

After all, two moderately successful uses of these of modules can easily add 300 or more to your damage total ... much more if you're lucky enough to land an Arty shell on someone's head and kill them. That adds a good deal to your tourney score.

I'm not complaining about this. Just observing and checking my thinking with you guys to see if I'm right about it..

(Personally, I'm trying to improve my piloting skills by not having to use Arty/Air as a crutch. For a while there I was using it every match.)

In any case, happy hunting all.

Happening all the time ... and usually whichever team has more arty/air spam wins as well.

Most players bring arty/airstrikes to every match anyway, these games are no exception.

Just to counter that argument, I'm in the top 10 on the Hunchback leader-board (at time of posting) with NO modules equipped on my mech. Never used arty or airstrike, and the only module I own is advanced zoom.

I am currently 4th of Trebuchet leaderboard :) and I never used any consumables. It is possible.
But then Trebs are not that popular, so the competition is not that hard as it is for other mechs (esp. Shadowhaks).

I use arties for regular games aswell. For instance I've had 220million yesterday before the tournament started, and am currently at 234m - so you still accumulate money.

Of course I use premium time.

Congrats to the guys who are doing well without using the Arty and Airstrikes (or cool shot).

I'm not using any of them either.

Every match I'm seeing huge numbers of Arty/Air strikes.

It's part of the game, so there's no issue with people who use them. I just think it is more ''admirable'' to rack up good scores without them.

Just played a game where there were eight Arty/Air strikes by the enemy in the first 4 minutes and 30 seconds.

Well, they're pretty much mandatory if you want to get up there fast. Using both, I got to #5 (and down to 11 overnight), and even got 3 kills...by using over a dozen.

You'll often make a profit on a win, but normally make a loss when you get stomped, W/out premium.

I do feel a little bad about it, but hey, perhaps PGI will finally do something about 800 damage of consumables after all this.

Why would they "do" something about it. You're just proving that they work and that players "like them" by using the hell out of them. Ok, I realize this is a case where statistics can be misleading, but PGI makes a ton of its decisions in a vacuum influenced mainly by telemetry.

They are going to see consumables as a win here based on player usage, simple as that.

TBH, I'm not seeing a disproportionate number compared to what I used to see in the public queue although I am seeing alot...ALOT...more misses, so my anecdotal experience apparently varies from some folks. Regardless, they've been part of the game for awhile, you have to expect to see them used in anything competitive (12's and now tournament).

People willing to contribute to a money (c-bill) sink will have an advantage, much like people ensuring their mechs have Endo and DHS. This is just a more constant expenditure. Just as people will have an advantage if they play alot more matches (on average), or play the optimal chassis and builds, or play in a medium class that tends to have less competition.

Is what it is on a tourney weekend.

The more PGI can get players to use their CBills, the better for PGI.

From their perspective, the less CBills players have, the greater the chance that players will buy Mechs with MC.

Since damage directly affects score from the matches, if you're serious about competing I don't see how you can pass up the strikes.

I ended up 6th in Cicadas, and when improving my scores I quickly learned that if I completely missed the strikes, it didn't matter how many kills I managed to get after that, the end damage just wouldn't be high enough to be an improvement to the previous matches because the DPS of the mechs themselves is pretty limited. Also, with good players in every match you can't really count on matches to drag on forever, so taking longer to deal that damage isn't usually an option.

Anyway, I still gained around 15 million during the tournament. And yes, I'm on premium time, too.

I was first in Cicadas for two days, finished fourth. Never used arty or air.
