I find this promotion curious. I know PGI has had similar promotions in the past, but I had to sit back and think about this one.

I am one of many "veterans of bad patches" that has taken a break since the "LRMs of complete ridiculousness" patch came out. I logged on to see if it had blown over yet... it hasn't. I noticed that it took me a LONG time to get in the 2 matches I played, like about 3 times as long as usual. Is this because of the limited number of matches being requested?

Is the Free Mechbay a not-so-clever ploy to beg "Please, guys, come back and play our game! You'll see! We didn't make the huge mistake that the vast majority think we did. We think that LRMs are PERFECT the way they are! You just need to adapt to the new game style we just forced on you!"

Will I slog through a few more matches to get the 5 wins? Yeah, I probably will because I'm a sucker. I'll hide near our LRMs and watch their flanks while they shred the enemy. Then I'll take another break until LRMs get brought back down to reality.

This and the mountain of GXP coming from achievements is clearly directed at new players. With the other free mechbay that came with the free Centurion, you can now level 3 chassis relatively comfortably, and have a module or two unlocked quickly.

That is something else to consider, Modo44. LRMs have long been known as a "noob friendly" weapon system. BEFORE YOU GUYS GET YOUR PANTIES IN A KNOT, I'm not claiming that all LRM jocks are noobs. They are just the easiest weapon system to score hits with for those not used to targeting.

So, PGI has buffed LRMs, increased GXP and given away a free 50 tonner w/ mechbay. You are probably right; PGI is probably targeting new players with the recent activities. I would imagine statistics would say that new players spend more money ("what have you done for me lately?") than those that have been playing for quite some time.

No, this is a common fallacy. The length of time you have to wait to be paired in a match might just as well be indicative of 240,000 players logged in simultaneously, all in a match, and you are #240,001 waiting for 23 players to either be freed up from current matches, or log in and start playing.

If that's true, PGI could ask themselves why someone who has played the game for several months stops spending money. It could be that they're tired of the monthly nerf/buff cycle, they remember when the game had better graphics AND frame rates, tired of lame mechanics like ghost heat, and the game gets stale once you see the snails pace of introducing new maps. (Yeah, moving the spawn points is no substitute for actually making new maps.)

After a while, I was disillusioned with MW:O, and decided PGI was more interested in stringing us along than giving us a good MechWarrior game. Therefore, I stopped buying MC.

So, it makes perfect sense to me that PGI is looking for new suckers.

Then I'm that unlucky guy who always is 240,001st in the queue. Logged in for some matches to get my free cockpit item last week and now for the 5 victories for the mech bay. It always took like forever to get into a match. Four out of five games still were LURMapalooza spam all over. Can't say I had fun getting the cockpit item and mech bay. So I'm offline again till the madness is over. In 80% of those games you had 5+ LRM boats on each side making the sun disappear the second anybody was spotted. It's just boring the hell out of me. I wish I could get back the ~150$ I spent on this game so far. Would have spent more but I don't see any progression, just one wrong decision after another.
