Well Support thinks its a good thing my GPU is running at half speed and barely being utilized... And from the technical update and discussion its clear PGI doesn't believe performance has been affected by the DX11 patch. I, like many of you, strongly disagree.

System:
Q6700 @ 3.2 - 3.6
4GB of Dominator 1066 5-5-5-15 (recently upgraded to 8gb)
GTX280 (recently upgraded to a free 770)
EVGA 780i FTW

Closed Beta / open Beta (DX9)
High Settings
M.B. = off
D.G. = on
V.S = off
24 inch monitor @ 1080
FPS 30-60 (never red)

After the launch and performance patch (DX9)
High to Very High Settings
M.B. = off
D.G. =on
V.S. = off
24 inch monitor @ 1080
FPS 30-60 Never red (much higher average fps thus very high settings)

12 man Patch (DX9)
Medium setings
M.B = off
D.G.= on
V.S. = off
24 inch @ 1080
FPS 30-50 (had to lower the settings to get back to where I was)

In between here I changed:
q6700 @ 3.4 vs 3.2
4gb ram upgraded to 8
GTX280 replaced with free 770gtx

DX11 patch (UGH) (playing on DX9)
Medium settings
M.B. = off
D.G. = on
V.S = off
A.A. = off (a first)
24 inch @ 1080
FPS 10-45 (with a much lower average)

In an attempt to restore performance I Uninstalled and re installed
-Nvidia GPU Drivers
-Nvidia Motherboard drivers
-Forced High Performance in Nvidia Control and windows
-Re installed the game
-Ran the repair tool

The dx11 patch has forced me to use custom settings for the first time... (Dx9)
Custom settings
M.B. = off
D.G. = off
V.S. = off (as always)
A.A. = off
Post Processing = Very high
Environment, shadows and object detail = Low
Everything else on high
FPS 25-45

Conclusion: While it makes sense that the 12 man patch increased CPU load and thus decreased GPU utilization for those of us who are CPU limited, the DX11 patch does not make any sense at all. This is by far the worst performance I have ever had in MWO with medium settings and support / PGI claim that nothing has changed. I know something changed as I have never had to use custom settings to get frame rates out of the red.

Anyways please feel free to share your experiences, hardware specs, settings and performance results. Curious as to how many people are experiencing the same thing.

Swap to dx9 and you will see an improvement. But i run the game with an i5-2320 and a 7750 HD on my htpc so you should be able to run it OK. Your cpu is a bottleneck though bro. Get an i5 and some asus mobo and your fps will raise even with dx11.

EDIT: I run the game at 1080p with my htpc on all medium to high settings abd get 30 min fps and avg 50 (dx9 cause this card is shit on dx11).

It does make sense, the dev's suck at optimisation, the DX11 patch was quite abysmal and completely unplayable for me (i5 -660Ti, blah blah)

A Core2 CPU on a DDR2 platform is your problem. MWO loves CPU cycles. Furthermore, there is a decent 5-20% increase in performance going from DDR2 to DDR3 RAM (application depending, and most games sit about dead center there). An i5 with 8GB of DDR3-1866 would benefit you greatly.

I have an i7 with a 660Ti and mine is far from unplayable. Fluid fps (60+) with everything set to high (and textures set to very high). Not saying that optimization isn't part of the problem, but I am saying your particular problem is not just due to that. Further, Tuesday's patch did increase performance for almost everybody. Your issue sounds like it's pre-Tuesday patch.

I have an i7 950 with 6gb ram and a gf760 and it runs fine. Green and yellow FRs on middle range settings and TXAA.

I7 Is why your running smoothe. I have I5 at 3.2ghz and a 660ti used to run game maxed for 50+ fps now I'm down to mostly high and some med settings :-/

For those of you who say my CPU is the problem... Please take note that I did NOT change my CPU. Its always been the same CPU. When I was playing on high / very high? Q6700. When I was able to play on medium? Q6700.

The problem, the change, has something to do with the DX11 patch. I have NEVER had fps drop into the red nor have I EVER had to use custom settings and I have ALWAYS had a q6700.

I am getting a free QX9650 that I personally overclocked for its owner to 3.8 (9700 zalman limiting the OC) so that should help some. BUT the entire point of this thread is to express that performance in MWO continues to fall and in the case of the DX11 patch is has fallen to nearly unplayable levels (on medium)

I play on dx9 btw as dx11, despite the 770, is worse.

MY cpu is OCed farther than it was in the past and it scores better than it ever has.
I have more ram than I have ever had.
The old 280 has been replaced with a free 770
And yet FPS is in the red (on medium) for the first time.

OK, so I am not the only one that feels like something went wrong with the DX11 patch. Thank you.

Were you forced to switch to DX11 with such an older system?

Forced to switch to DX11? Like at gunpoint or something? No... And I don't play on DX11, I play on DX9. Always have yet after the DX11 patch my performance has suffered greatly.

Thanks for clarifying that. I speced my system shortly after it was built. Posted Image

The only thing I notice is some water texture corruption in DX11, the sparkles pixelate quite a bit.

As software advances older hardware is stressed at times beyond its capable use. Yeah something likely changed with the addition of DX11 and lower end or older hardware will suffer. As much as you might not want to hear it perhaps its time for an upgrade? I know I'm looking at a few goodies and honestly I haven't found anything that I cannot run on the highest settings yet. I asked for help and advice in the build on this forum and was taught what MWO used as a game and it was well known then that a dual core was very low end to be playing MWO.

Good luck man but trying to get the company to take a step back for your old software is not the answer.

just remember that the dx11 integration was to add the dx11 framework, its far from optimized - it was just added to get it in there. Optimizations come later.

Its strange to me how the game can run so different on other systems...

I hit 28-85 Fps, with a 45 Fps average using DX11 all settings at Very high apart from Shadows, Environment and Object detail which are on High. 1440 x 900 Res. No AA, D.G on, Vsync on.

I have a Phenom II X6 1045T overclocked to run @3.6Ghz, 8Gig DDR3, Crossfired 7770s.
Its not the best rig in the world Medium/High specs overall and cost less than £400 to put together.
On any other game, ARMA3 for example I have around 50-60 Fps maxed detail and crossfire optimised games around 80-85 Fps.

I'm hoping one of these days they will release a proper SLI/Crossfire patch and then we can really enjoy the game as its meant to be...

Oh well soonTM I suppose :)
