I just wanted to share these 2 screenshots to show that stock mechs are not only fun to play, but can also deal good dmg and be an asset to a team.

Note that I mention "updated" stock loadouts, by this I mean I'm using DHS on my CN-9A and DHS + XL engine on my Jagermech (necessary to gain enough armor and ammo to last through the match)

So here's the CN9-A match using an AC/10, 2 Mlasers, 1 LRM 10.

and here's the Jaegermech match, although that one was a complete seal clubbing. The Jaegermech uses 2 AC/2, 2 AC/5, 2 Mlasers, XL engine + DHS

I guess my point is that you don't always need to completely change your mech loadout to the latest meta to do well. These 2 matches are from tonight only and I could share several more pictures of mechs which use stock weapons and deal well over 600 dmg. But, the appeal of using such loadouts is that, although this is subjective, after trying PPC Snipers and LRMboats, these type of mixed loadouts are a lot more fun to use.

During the first tournament I placed 10th in the leaderboards for mediums using a CN9-A with a stock 200 engine with an AC/10, 2 medium lasers and 2 SRM-6. Was more difficult than using the meta but I specifically wanted to try and do well with something that wasn't what everyone else was using.

I run a few updated stock builds and they work just fine:

CN9-AL: 2 LRM10s, ER Lrg, 2 Mds, TAG
JM6-A: AC2, 2 ALRM15s, 2 Mds
TDR-5SS: PPC, 3 Mds, TAG, ALRM15
AWS-8V: 3 ALRM15s, PPC, 2 Mds, TAG

I haven't bought, maxed out (efficiencies, I mean), and updated my Griffin or Wolverine but they're going to end up being pretty close to what they were in TT. But, the point still stands that you don't need to reinvent the wheel when you buy a mech. The ability to be successful is 100% between the chair and the monitor.

They work ok if you get lucky drops (if you are soloing), I do the same. They obviously aren't meta beasts, just for something "different" and self-challenging... what irks me the most is that on most of them I have to upgrade to DHS due to the game design when something as heat efficient as a stock JM6-S is hotter than the sun with 10SHS in MWO.

I'm in the process of creating a bunch of templates for pure stock battles (12v12) sync drops with groups I play with for pure stock unmodified (starting with 3025) which is very popular in German groups. Its the last vestige of fun I'm trying to have with this game.

If/when you get that going, Taskeen, let me know. I'm half German so I can be there part of the time. :D

Wholeheartedly agreed. Most of my loadouts are modified stock, adding tech but keeping to the original intent of the design.

I've landed the leaderboards in a couple tournaments, I did place 6th in one of them at the last minute (being bumped down from third goddammit).

Picked up a Wolverine yesterday and updated it. DHS, XL engine, a little armor, AMS, and an extra SRM 6. Kept the AC/5 and Med Laser.

Been doing 400+ dmg a round with it and been having a blast. A very aggressive stock based mech.

I play most of my mechs this way. It certainly helps maintain the individual identity of my mechs, which at this point is critical to my enjoyment of the game as I own 50 of them.

I've recently picked up a wolverine 6r, and all I did was slap endo on it. It runs cool enough to not need dhs.

Most of my mechs run pretty close to stock, at least the weapon loadouts. Though I've been running the WVR-7K completely stock, and it's not too bad. A little hot, but that just takes some fire control. It's actually worked well so far.

One thing I have to say about some stock load outs... its not a simple one or two button config. Except for a rare few, I'm utilizing 3 if not 4 mice buttons to shoot. Its the only game I can think of that requires shooting with multiple buttons. Some people may feel intimidated keeping track of so many weapon systems and instead opt for a more simpler, redundant weapon set up.

The stock TDR-5S is a beast. LL+LRM+SRM+ML+MG = 5 mouse buttons if you want to control your fire and heat.

But yeah, I love that the LRM buff has enabled the "stock" (or at least much more BattleTech-like) loadout of 10-20 LRM tubes to be viable - before the patch I sometimes stripped e.g. the single LRM-10 off a 'mech just because it was as useful as a bicycle to a fish. Now it's all of a sudden useful, and I've enjoyed some stock-like builds the last week:

The above mentioned TDR-5S with LL+LRM15+SRM6+3ML
A couple of Griffins with a mix of LRMs and energy weapons
A pair of SHawks with ACs, LRMs, and lasers.

Not stock, but a sight more BattleTech than prior to the patch.

This thread inspired me to try my Phoenix Griffin. I figured instead of upgrading the LRM rack like the 3M Griffin does, I'd upgrade with a second PPC instead. Got the 275XL from the M. Doing pretty good as a knife fighter/flanker against heavier units, but pretty defenseless against lights.

that's surprisingly easy for me. Being left handed, I have my own keyboard setup with the arrows for movements and del/end/page down for other weapon groups. That means I can use 5 weapon groups with no difficulty whatsoever. A 6th would be difficult to manage but doable, but i'm trying to never go higher than 5 groups. I don't think I have a mech that uses less than 3 weapon groups.

Ah, lucky you. I ended up getting a throttle for speed and turning. I can't equip both UAV and Airstrike at the same time cause I don't have enough buttons on the throttle. But, the added I control I get in piloting is so worth the limited number of buttons.
