Hi has anyone tried playing MWO on one of the intel 4th Gen NUC with the integrated HD 5000 graphics?

I'm assuming it still sucks but would like to know if it's getting anywhere near playable levels yet.

I look forward to hearing from anybody that has tried it.

Seeing as how a HD 4000 can play this on minimum settings sorta decently, it looks like that 5000 should give you some more frames. I'd definitely say playable though.

However, be aware of the CPU going into that NUC. The HD 4000 that I referenced was at least using a "Mobile" chip that was used in a standard laptop. Those NUC's usually run with Ultra Low-Power(ULP) CPU's. Even if you got an i5 or i7, its not meant for the demands that this game places on the CPU. So, I wouldn't bother with the NUC's tbh.

It might be somewhat reasonable on something like this: http://www.anandtech...gabyte-brix-pro

but for the money...better off building an i3/APU based full-MiniITX system.

Completely Dependent on Cooling abiity, amount of Ram, and better CPU = better integrated graphics. I also found that if you have a computer which has a BIOS which lets you tweak the GPU settings it will improve performance. I just got off an Acer l4620G running an i7-3770S to run games I had to leave one panel off case and blow a 120mm fan constantly to control the heat. it can be done just depends on how hard you push it. I played at all Med settings and got sub 30fps. Fairly playable but a faster more capable system will be like night and day compared to this proposed setup.

I run MWO on a laptop (which also means slower drive RPM and seek times and less cooling that most desktops) running Win 8.1 with an older generateion I7 (Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz) with HD Graphics 4000, 8 GB of RAM (DDR3 1600, 512MB dedicated to the GPU in BIOS) and while I have to keep my graphics settings fairly low, the game is completely playable.

The machine ran on 4 GB of RAM (with 128 MB dedicated to GPU) for a long time and was still perfectly playable on low graphics settings. Even before the upgrade I could set graphics to medium and keep 15+ FPS. I get about 19-24 FPS on medium graphics after the memory upgrade and get 29-33 FPS pretty consistently on low graphics after the upgrade. If I temporarily disable my antivirus and all unnecessarily processes before loading MWO, I can reliably increase those FPS rates by 3-7 regardless of graphics settings.

My rig was purchased primarily as a work machine, not for gaming, but it is what I have. My screen maxes out at 1366 x 768 on resolution, so playing at that level. Usually I run most graphics settings on low with environment and shadows on medium. I do this mainly because being able to see the shadows of mechs around obstacles can be very helpful in combat and because with low environment settings i sometimes have issues with a shot being blocked by a piece of environment that was not rendered due to distance when playing long range builds.

You are talking about a newer generation CPU with the HD 5000 graphics, so assuming all other factors (RAM amount and speed, overhead from background processes, etc.) on your machine are the same or better, you should see at least this level of performance, probably a reasonable amount higher.

bottomline is the NUC will not let you run games at pretty res and fps
