I'm for this, only if Community Warfare could actually make the game feel more dynamic and unpredictable. But seriously, a lot needs to be integrated into the game(CW) before this seems rational. I mean CW is going to be the focus on the Devs minds for a while, so a new faction option or a custom faction option maybe follow shortly after CW is in place.
So someone should just remember to post on this topic again when CW comes into play. To give the Devs a reminder.

After the Clans invade, the poor Liao and Marik MechWarriors would get bored soon to fight each other forever They badly need another opponent.. Some Periphery pirate scum would be perfect.

I think if Pirates were a faction that almost everyone would join em and they'd conquer the Inner Sphere

Pirate Contract:
"Yo ho ho! Ahoy matey, ye be wise to sign this pirate contract to pillage and plunder the Inner Sphere for some ancient booty, argh!"
Also a Pirate faction should have a MWO-ized take on the Jolly Roger flag, as a faction icon and base banner:

I however do think that picking your factions or staying "merc" should be better thought out. They should give people better ability to be mercs, that doesn't step on the toes of picking a side to fight for.
A couple of suggestions with mercing it up, that when you drop on a planet and pick a side to fight for, you can only draw upon a pool of other mercs/people of your unit, you don't get that faction pool. As an example.

I like the idea of pirates, besides it is not that hard to do.
1. Make pirates a faction just like the House/Clans
2. Start giving them LP and C-bill bonuses
3. Give them the ability to attack Clan and House factions
4. Give pirates little territory.
The thing about Merc Corps are that they only fight for the highest bidder. Pirates do not care about loyalty, only treasure.

Sign me up.
But the truth of the matter is it ain't gonna happen.
Far too bad.
I heard "Pirates" aka outworld alliance is going to be a faction eventually as well as merc corps and lone wolfs being options.
