as in Elementals, vehicles, aircraft, infantry, etc...?

I'd think they could be added to maps, even if the players had no control over them, and they were more of a background kind of thing.

or would the just eat up everyone's FPS?

thoughts?

There are two basic difficulties:

1. Group-Size

2. Balancing

One Mech is worth a hundred infantrymen or a dozen Elementals or a lance of tanks. One would have to make sure that each player controls the same amount of battlepower, no matter which troop-type he chooses.

We would have to make sure that tanks or infantry aren't hopelessly outclassed, just because they are too slow or can't run through water or can't jump over obstacles.

But you have them in game right now- they are called turrets.
Believe me, you don't want to see other, equally well balanced non mech units ingame.

God i hope so. they said they were making an asymmetric base assault mode.

But hell, a dota style game with NPC streaming into a battlefront and mechs battleing along sdie them would be awesome. kind of like what titanfall has done. Or like starwars battlefront

Pretty sure this isn't on the cards, just like quad mechs. With the amount of other, more important stuff they have to do they probably won't be considering it for twenty years or more. It'll be in the game the same time as the single player mode, or at this rate, community warfare.

Players would chose mechs. Bam.

Which is something that has been stated that if we were ever able to get into this sort of territory that infantry and armor would be AI driven as this is Mechwarrior. Although if they're still wondering if we want CW you'd probably be waiting till at least 2017 on this...assuming we wanted it.

Which we have :) but who knows. Good AI combined arms is one of those things I've felt a Mechwarrior game really needs to progress feature-wise as a franchise...or just roll over and die and give me Battletech (which would be that mostly). Either way.

The real problem is that a tank pilot with their 1 PPC could probably snipe a lot better then any mech on the field.

Standing knee high to a light mech they would offer a very poor target,

People whine about turrets enough already... and they are booth immobile (easy to avoid) and dumb as rocks (easy to fool).

Could you imagine the Great Flood of QQ that havng mobile, semi intelligent AI units would release?

I would love to see it, but I don`t think today`s modern Battlemech of Duty generation would be able to handle it....

They have mentioned once upon a time they will add NPC units.

Possibly purchasable/consumable for battles in Community Warfare (speculation).

NPC Vtols and Tanks would be a nice touch. But Considering Turrents feel way more durable than they should be, PGI would make tanks better then a Daishi. -.-

Consumeables in game or pre-map Screen is the only way i see this possible.

Consumeables in example: infantry (30 man) - 40k c-bills, IS-Elementals (4) - 50k c-bills, Clan-Elementals (5) 80k c-bills, Vtol (2) - 60k-80k c-bills, Vehicle (2) 60k-100k c-bills. Evrything will be droped by a Karnov VTOL, simmilar to Arti/Air now.

pre match seqence: a Little harder to manage. If we ever get a real organization Screen for pre match there could be a Value X for VTOL/Ground/Inf and the Commander could choose and set waypoints (but thats a dream of mine and will never happen)

Maybe we can all get some other Kind of Points (Support Points - simmilar to GXP) and use it for this Kind of stuff.

But still only suggestions and fantasy

Well, there are turrets and there is the aircraft that drops airstrike bombs ^_^. But otherwise, not in the near future.

Convoy escort would be interesting.
They don't have to be very tough or smart.
