I love my Pain Train the ON1-VA which is my most effective mech and destructive LRMboat. The Oni Slayer, an ON1-K is also a very good mech and great for the 'poor man's Marauder'.

They're still basically baby Atlases.

The K is a minni atlas as-7rs to be exact. ac10 or 5 instead of a 20 and lrm 10s instead of 15s. Thats why i got the M. More expensive orion but ya get a 300xl if ya want. I already run the atlas, dont need a minni me..

Yeah, but the atlases are too slow and lumbering for me. It's the one reason I don't pilot one. Most people don't pay much attention to the Orion anymore when Cataphracts and Highlanders are lurking about. Then they discover how 75 tons moving 80 with a lot of armor and firepower can be quite effective and hard to kill, XL engine or not.

With the V on sale I was thinking of grabbing my first Orion (missed the protector sale because of vacation).
Thoughts?

ON1-V

(it actually turns out I missed the sale. :) Still. I'll get around to Orions eventually...)

That is a good build. I went with an lrm 15 though. and the stock 280 or whatever engine you get

My VA have settle on this odd mix of missile and energy built, abandoning the single ballistic slot.
It is a frankenmech but it works for my play style as a second line support.

ON1-VA
2x LRM15 to rain missile from behind frontline, 2x LL to poke at anything that got pass the frontline or pinpoint damage on expose component.
The 2x SSRM2 as point defend against LRMBoat hunting lights, with the LL throw in.
