I don't mind a random map, but I should get to select my mech after the map is known. I'd be fine if I had to select weight class, or hell even exact chassis before map is known; as long as I could switch after. I've whined about this since beta, but this time I'll back it up with inaction. I'll be gone a few months. Maybe this and the missing clan warfare will be introduced by the time I return.

I've been bemoaning this for a year and a half. It also adds to immersion to be able to know the map beforehand and/or pick your 'mech after you know. My old example: no commander today would send alpine ski troops in arctic parkas to fight in the Sahara desert at noon, and neither will a commander in 3051.

They should use the Premium Private Matches system due to come online April 29 to set up battles in a pre-Community Warfare experiment. Instead of players setting it up, PGI will set it up and customize it for a specific map, game mode and weight restrictions and call it the "Battle of (fill in the blank)". They do this several times, creating several "battles". Players can then choose which battle they want to fight and decide who brings which weight class 'mech in the lobby.

had the worst map in existence 4 times in a row today...
river city at night..
horrible POS map....only map in the game I cannot stand.
actually the randomness to me a good thing, specially not allowing you to choose the mech when you know the map. To me it add something to the game, makes you have to adapt a bit with the mech you are playing with it.
i think if you could choose, you'd end up with more rounds that are just sort of everyone with perfect loadouts for that one map.

That's how the military works in real life. The few times they don't have perfect loadouts is when they have bad intel or were tricked. All commanders everywhere make sure their units have perfect loadouts whenever possible.
