The Three Hours to Win 3 games thread got me thinking about the C-Bill rewards for this game and how I foolishly purchased the on-sale 3-day Premium time, however when I am only winning 1-in-5 matches, that premium bonus is largely going to waste.

This thread is not to complain about the matchmaker or any specific cause for those losses, but to instead allow PGI to give players an incentive to invest in Premium time.

I propose that for every subsequent loss a player gains a 10% "Contribution" bonus to "Active Rewards", up to 100%; and after a victory, that bonus is reset to 0%. When I say "Active Rewards" I mean things like: Kills, Assists, Spotting, Capturing, turret destruction, damage. This essentially means there will not be a way to farm this bonus. And it is simply there to reward players who are trying to be an effective part of their team, but have somehow settled into Elo hell.

So... you want losing to be worth potentially as much or more than winning? As it is, for a "close" loss, I usually end up with about half of what I make for winning. You give the losing teams this kind of bonus, where's the incentive to win?

There is a difference in losing because there is no incentive to win, and losing 5 games in a row while trying to carry an entire team. If you are not playing the game in an effective manner, there is no benefit, the bonus is only applied to activities you perform in a match, so if you sandbag it like the rest of your team, nobody gets anything.

Finally, and most importantly, it is about PGI convincing that same player whom the matchmaker hates, to invest their hard earned cash in Premium time. I’ve got a about a 1.0 Win/Loss since the stat wipe, unfortunately that usually breaks down into a day of 10 wins in a row or a day of 10 losses in a row. And I suppose had I bought my premium time on the winning day I wouldn’t be making this post, but I didn’t, and my premium time earning didn’t match may standard time earnings while on a winning streak. So what is my incentive to buy premium time?

Right now the answer is none, so I won’t. But I am proposing a fair solution.

I really like the idea of resetting the bonus once you do win. However, I also agree with LauLiao in a way... the loss bonus should be between 5 and 10%, perhaps based on how much you really did carry your team -borne out by point and payout totals, such as for spotting and Savior kills, etc.-, but it would have to be capped at what a moderate win for a drop would be, or perhaps 5 to 10% less than the moderate win. Of course, the fact that it would only be done as a result of premium time sort of makes the whole thing work, even though you already get a bonus, even if you lose, from premium. Perhaps that bonus could be reworked for your effectiveness on your team?

Alternately, why not have it based on your effectiveness for your team on a per-drop basis, so you can still walk away with enough XP and cash closely equivalent to a moderate win?

I'd like this, but as the previous posters have said, the bonus needs to be kept relatively low in order to prevent people from purposefully tossing a match to gain a "free" bonus.

I don't like the stacking idea. Just makes me think people will abuse it by taking crap mechs into a game, quit early or fail intentionally, stack the bonus then take a real mech into a match to cash in on all of it.

A simpler, better idea IMO would be to just have a first win of the day bonus. It is so painfully obvious I don't know why PGI has not done it already. It will make players happy and encourage casual people to play more frequently.
