Does this mean we'll have female pilot options? Is it, like so many other games, restricted to just one class (usually the scout, or the magic user in fantasy games)? Or is it the better solution of allowing any combination of pilot class and gender?

Yea, you'll have the option for your pilot to be female, as they're on par with males in Battletech (and has been mentioned, probably the best mech pilot of the game is female,) and you won't be having bonuses for being male over female or female over male for any reasons.

It'll be purely cosmetic.

Shouldn't feed the trolls, but what the heck!

See my quote? Look really hard....now..see the word.. "probably"?

You know what "probably" means...right?

Natasha Kerensky and Kai Allard-Liao are the two best mech pilots of the timeline, no one really knows who's better and it doesn't matter. Natasha is one hell of a scary opponent just like Kai is, which mean women are just as good or better then their male counterparts.

For a FPS it might make more sense to have the characters be male, especially if they're all "grunts".
For a sim like MWO, there's no reason a female pilot would be any worse (or better) than anyone else, just like in real life...Natasha Kerensky is the prime example.
However, as a sim you won't be spending much time looking at your pilot.

I get your point, but I agree with Melissia that it would be nice to have avatars to interact with (if there is going to be a hub of some sort). There's almost endless examples of modern games with full-featured character editors, even though it doesn't impact gameplay (the worst one was Top Spin, where I spent 2 hours making a character that looked just like me, then 10 minutes playing the actual game :)).

They better not allow female pilots. My mom said I can't hit girls. Besides who will make me pie after the mission.
Science (fiction) has proven that women don't have the multi-tasking skills required for mech piloting.
I don't think mechs have rear view mirrors, how will they put their makeup on?

This is tangential to the original poster's point, but I wanted to come out against mechwarrior 'classes' in any sense. I hope we are allowed to just train for what we want to do on an individual skill basis, without crediting the ancient and needlessly limiting idea that there are only so many 'types' of characters, and each one can only do certain things well.
