After I died in a recent game at Terra Therma, one of the teammates that was still alive (I won't name him in public, though I could name him in a PM if you'd like) rapidly switched back and forth to thermal vision. Because thermal vision was configured to completely white out the screen on Terra Therma, the result is that an abusive player can potentially cause seizures! Unfortunately, since this particular player happened to be the only one left alive, everyone on my team had no choice but to suffer from his epilepsy-inducing shenanigans, or leave the match.

This needs to be addressed ASAP, or someone could actually get hurt (or worse) from an epilepsy caused by someone's griefing! :) (I've already lost a brother from a seizure a few years ago :) .)

I would suggest reporting the player, and if you took a video of the event, submit that as evidence.

For something like this, I don't know what else to suggest. Most video games come with warnings, and some ads on the internet are far worse... :) Just don't know what PGI could do to prevent this to be honest.

The devs could've made it so that the screen fades to white after, like, half a second, instead of suddenly turning white like that.

Why don't you just look away from the screen? Unless the player said that he was doing it intentionally, I personally like to swap vision modes really fast because it can give you a lot more information than just normal, but, like on Terra, is inferior in many aspects. I kinda use it like a radar I suppose.

Not sure how ASAP it needs to be as you need to be playing on a specific map & have the last person alive being a griefer & have photosensitve epilepsy & for the griefer to hit the frequency that the individual is suseptable to & for the suseptable person to not spot what the griefer is doing and switch view/look away. I'm not saying that it isn't a concern, as I freely accept epilepsy is dangerous, I'm just not convinced that given the amount of flashing lights in the game already that this behaviour would be any more dangerous for someone with photosensitive epilepsy who's playing the game and that normal countermeasures (avoid being too close to the screen, play with full lighting in the room etc) wouldn't remove the risk. I also thought that there is already a delay in switching modes that would further reduce the risk, though I've never tried to do this and can't test at the moment so could be wrong on that.

Having said that I happily and fully accept that if someone is behaving like this in an attempt to cause another person harm they are a ****.

Stuff like this makes me very upset. As a firefighter/paramedic of 20+ years in Florida the original poster has no idea what he is talking about. The incident described above WILL NOT CAUSE Epilepsy. What it MIGHT cause is a seizure, either petite mal seizure grand mal seizure and maybe a few other variants. Epilepsy is a disorder. You can not catch it from a game.

Epilepsy

A Neurological disorder marked by sudden recurrent episodes of sensory disturbance, loss of consciousness, or convulsions, associated with abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
