To the OP and others stating that they ignore people because they've seen or are engaging the other team: Do you tell your team that you've seen them or where they've been spotted moving to? Because that would solve a lot of problems.

And how is the rest of your team to know that you shutting down means "I'm a special snowflake and I don't listen to strangers!"

You shutting down, to other people, can be viewed as going afk or just not playing any more which, unless you've been ignoring everything strangers say in the forums too, is a particularly irksome issue at the moment.

Er, wot? Random people on the internet, do not owe you anything, nor are not obligated to talk to you, or do whatever you want. What the hell. What all those other players do online, is none of your business. They can Leroy if they want, and you don't get a say in that. They can run around in a Locust and flame the trees, and yeah, they can shut down if they want, and it's still none of your damn business.

That afk issue is not an issue, that's just a fact of life. If the kids are screaming and carrying on, you can't go "Oh, hang on, just in the middle of a match." That's stupid, it's just a video game.

Agreed. Good topic btw.

In fact General chat should be removed as well. After playing for almost 2 years the only general chat I see are ;

a) rude or inappropriate comments on sex, religion or politics

b.) GLHF, HF GL, 07, o7, o>, ,,I, etc

c) We are alpha star useless galaxy, Now recruiting at www.clanuseless.org, etc

d) (scenario 1 mech left) He is powered down, afk, or disconnected at F5. As much as I appreciate the info to save 5 or so minutes in the endgame this still constitutes giving away a team mates position. Treason as it were.

There should only be team chat, and lance chat.

You forgot...

e) BACON!!

The same can be said for people yelling at the OP in chat then. You can't stop them from doing so, they aren't obligated to stop saying things in chat simply because he doesn't like it. That's their business etc.

If you want a little courtesy you've got to give some.

As to AFKing, there has been a lot of vitriol directed at people who shutdown in a corner and do nothing for the match for the sole purpose of annoying everyone by drawing out a match, this is what people get twitchy about when they see someone shutdown - not someone who has to answer a phone or knock the kids out.

They aren't obligated to stop harassing other players? So that's your answer? That's what you're going with?

Forget about being online, this is not acceptable anywhere. People are simply NOT entitled to harass others when things don't go their way -- Period.

Oh, so they should do whatever strangers want, so as not to face harassment. That's stupid and sickening.

Yeah, that's how it starts with nothing but suspicion and fear, makes me sick just thinking about it. Unless you have anything substantive, pointing the finger at someone that's AFK and inferring malicious intent is just another witch hunt.

I've been a <dead> typer many times;

-# of mechs in B4
-4 mechs left, 6vs4, regroup.
-Atlas Charlie CT cored red
-Enemy team split into 2 groups.

Things of this type, usually! :)

I can see your only a verteran founder

WTF does that have to do with ANYTHING? Who cares what level of founder anyone is, or how much money mommy and daddy lets them spend, or how much money someone has to drop on a game. How does that relate to this argument what so ever? Who cares what size your epeen is. He has a point, whether you agree with it or not.

Remove general chat for a month. I guarantee people will miss it as much as 6 x PPC stalker.

I and many others will miss it. Though you get some really idiotic people in there, you can also talk to some really great people. I have had just as many, if not more, good to great convorsations in general than I have had negative idiots or remarks. It is easy to tune out the negativity as long as you are mature enough not to respond to it or feed the trolls.

I agree with others, the OP causes his own issues by disregarding team play. Who cares if they are strangers, if you listen once in a while, you may find that your wins per session may go up. In like 99.99999999% of games I have won, they are all due to strangers giving, receiving, and dealing with orders from other strangers. You should really try it.

Humm something else that is not going to get fixed and the trolls who like to piss in people's bowls. I generally hate some of the BS of pointing out the last man standing. If you don't want to see the match out DC and pick up another mech, u don't have to be an ass hat. But generally being a good person on the internet nay. If you want to know what a person is really like look at their forum posts, it seems to always show their true colors. The internet is the lowest common denominator.

We'll back to my zoo keeping.

The trolls always need food.

I get heavily damaged in game as I'm the first one to sight the enemy everybody else is lumped hiding in a couple groups. I pull back gain a high vantage point and start harassing anything that shows itself.

I get told to move twice now I follow no orders in game on not from strangers so I shut down quick to show my cooperation to being ordered to change my play style at the moment. I'm threatened with being reported, seriously?

I have had it with the amount of threats of reportings I hear thrown around in this game every day. Why are the dead allowed to speak at all?

I end up sighting the atlas and take quite a few shots on it. I work my way up to the last remaining teamate and together we take out the second mech and work our way towards the atlas. I die and by luck and the damage I helped inflict on that atlas we won.

You die your chat should die as well.

I don't think I've ever been threatened with reporting - generally this level of behavior in team games is demonstrated by players who fall into lower Elo rankings. Players of team games who walk around with a giant chip on their shoulder tend to fall to lower Elo rankings. You should sit down and think for a while about how these two facts might apply to your life.

Well, hmmm... Tonight I had a match where the PUG let it be known they needed direction. So I gave it. They followed it... sorta... and did the one thing I told them not to do... So when my lance who did stick with me saw the smoking stragglers catch up, while a few remaining ones fought valiantly to die in the door to the PUG Zapper, we pushed to support them... but they stopped at the door again, blocking everyone, allowing 8 mechs to focus fire. I pushed through and my lance mates pushed through and somehow I ended up the only survivor, loose... and the harranging started from one of the guys griping about the "noob commander". He of course was one who lead the push to die in the door the first time.

I reminded him the PUG did what I advised they should not do: "Go and die in the door of the PUG Zapper" and we were then forced to try and save them and push in... which then stalled again at the door, and was left with the LRMboat forced to lead the charge. Again with the noob accusations. I pointed out I've done 4000 drops, so believe what you want. He didn't like that and said "I killed an atlas, we'll see how you did at the end of the match." I went RTB and ended up fighting their team there... and ended up with the "REALLY?" achievement and Bridesmade award for highest damage, no kills. From him... silence.

The fact that I was able to type this while keeping away from the enemy was a little surprising to me... grumpiness apparently fuels fast typing. But I took it in stride as I have also admonished bad teams for doing bad things or using tart tongued advice. But it's nice when you can shut down someone who does the dumb thing you just said not to do by outperforming them.

OP
Sorry, but the attitude of "I take no orders" and the general "I do what I want" marks you as something alright.
Your way may not be the right way, that dead guy sometimes might have a better idea than you do-might be a MUCH BETTER PLAYER than you are and has good advice to give.

You are not special, nor brilliant you are just you. Sometimes that other guy is RIGHT and you are WRONG.
Then of course sure, you get abusive plonkers-but ignore them-or at least try to?

If you turn off dead speak, how will you be able to read the comments like "That was amazing"... "How did you do that?" "Another kill!" "Just two left, you got this!"

You're not getting those?

But... if there were no general chat, how would I get my fix of buzz about BACON, inappropriate comments on how good the game was and it's relative razor-thin-margins-of-victory, or complaints about everyone on my team being "LRM bundles of sticks" from dead opfor even though there are only 1-2 LRM boats on the blue team?

However, I do actually find it useful on occasion to compliment the person who killed me using exceptional piloting skills, strategy, or aim.

P.S.: HOOOOOOODOR!!!

If you know that you're not doing anything wrong, you shouldn't be worried about threats of being reported.
It's as simple as that.
