MWO should have been a browser based interface instead of in-game. It already has this site to operate from and it functions very well. Over the past few months we have heard about several issues the developers face when designing a new UI or new front-end features. They have stated the difficulty of using the CryEngine to create a UI. The developers have stated that creating a UI to suit specific resolutions has been a challenge. Most of the issues could be solved by using a browser based system.

I'll use Battlelog as an example for the Battlefield franchise. Everything a player needs is provided on a website. They are able to view their stats, the forums, and game-related news all in one place. These are all things mwomercs.com currently provides, but Battlelog takes it a few steps farther. Battlelog allows a player to customize his soldiers kits before launching a game. It also provides a server lobby that allows you to chose what server to join before even launching the game.

mwomercs.com can add similar features to their own site to replace the current UI (2.0).

It could include a Mechlab identical to Smurfy's. Smurfy's site is in such high-demand that it is currently being implemented into the UI although the developers are already faced with resolution restrictions. Having a browser based Mechlab removes most of the restrictions. Browsers are natively adaptable to any resolution. Native features such as vertical and horizontal scroll bars as well as zoom mean that an interface can be designed around the most common resolution on the market, but still work for low resolution displays.

There would be a lobby system where you can see private matches and request to join. Private matches can have a "Locked" option for invites and requests only. Likewise, there would be an "Open" option that allows anyone to join that lobby at-will. At that point, lobbies can have designation such as "Locked" "Open" "Premium Locked" and "Premium Open" to clarify their status. Each private match will have a generic drop-ship designation such as "Drop Ship 34" or similar. Players who create a private match can also add a description like "Lords Practice" or "Skirmish Only" etc. Players that join a match (or allowed to join a match) will be taken to a new window where he can select his mech, chat with the other people on that server, and ready-up to launch the game. This would allow players to quickly communicate information like a TeamSpeak server info incase any players want to use voice communication. Of course there would also be a "Launch Now" option that results in a separate public match-making system that is currently in the game.

The current UI 2.0 already links to browser based features such as stats and purchasing MC, these features as well as all the other features of MWO could be transitioned to a browser based system.

All of the features that would complete MWO can be accomplished easily on a browser. You would have a singular location for all information pertaining to the game. The community would naturally utilize the forums more often because it is readily available in the same location as the game's UI, only a click away.

As far as I know Battlefield 3/4 are the only games to have done this successfully. I have a feeling there's a reason for this, its probably not easy to do since you then have multiple platforms to worry about instead of just one.

MWO Client = 1 platform (Windows native)

Battlefield Client = 2+ platforms (Windows native, browser plugins for at least 3 web browsers, browser rendering for those 3 browsers)
