Anyone remember the 'double domination' game type from UT4? Where to win you needed to control both flag points for a period of time?

I wonder whether you could make something similar work in MWO, where both teams drop on opposite sides of the map and away from both cap points which start uncapped, have a relatively fast cap / uncap time (10 or 20 seconds, with no multi-mech acceleration? with mechs from boths sides in the circle, it would go to neutral and stay there), and then you need to hold them both capped for some relatively short period (2 or 3 minutes?) or else hold one without the other team holding the other for a longer period (say 5+ minutes?) to win the round. Or else kill everyone as per normal.

Cool idea but I see this turning into another assault mode; also, team balance would have to be optimum as if a team drops with no lights/no fast mechs, the enemy would win for sure (total cap time). As for being a second assault mode, each team would run to a base that benefits them (terrain or location) and hold it. From there, either a staring contest or a one-by-one death as some try to win the alternate base while the stubborn/tactical hold out.

Something that could work against that is have the time you held a base saved like resource points
Example:
Team 1 holds Base 1 for two minutes and get pushed off by Team 2. Team 1 can run to the other and hold Base 2 for five minutes (if whole team moves together). Team 2 holds Base 1 for six minutes but Team 1would win due to overall time on the bases? (7min vs 6min)

Just a thought to counter the game-sinking strategies I see that would play as ruling powers. Great idea though! With a few game-play revisions, I would certainly consider playing Double Domination mode! ;)

I like it! It may create a situation where the game has to be a fixed time-length to make it work and encourage strategy over brute pushes though...?

Maybe another aspect to it could be having the strategic points decay and lose capture value the longer you have held them for? That would encourage base-hopping and the inevitable clashes that ensue from that.

Or maybe the value of holding both together could be triple or quadruple that of holding just one?

it wouldn't be another assault mode because it would definitely force teams to split in 2 forces.

i kinda like it :)
put a single turret in each one so the lights get trolled for the first minute or so

oh and change the name... sounds like a bad triple X flick
