Look at the original MW5 trailer

Obviously, a lot of elements of the UI are not present in the trailer for cinematic reasons.
We should be able to adjust our ingame UI's, most particularly the lines on the screen,

I hate seeing opaque yellow lines over everything. Sometimes your crosshair can actually obscure your vision when aiming at distant targets. Being able to make the lines on the HUD transparent could be beneficial to not only gameplay, but the games aesthetics as well.

Allow scaling of parts of the UI. Why does my weapons system section take up so much room?
Why cant we make it smaller, freeing up more peripheral view?

Simple changes like this can drastically improve the look of the game
Just look at this HUD

See how sleek it is? See how the HUD lines dont interfere with your peripheral view?
It looks modern by gaming standards and futuristic by the universes standards.

That kind of look is what we should be able to get.

I second your motion. The HUD could look better like these. Also thanks for posting that amazing trailer. I hope to someday play that when someone creates a true Mechwarrior simulator.

I understand your joy about progress in Star Citizen development (what is it? They have released dogfighting module at last?), but HUD shown by you is somewhat cluttered and reduce peripheral vision by bright columns of information at sides of the screen, when in MWO info panels only occupy corners, leaving sides free. If you're speaking only about central "panel" of the HUD, then, again, MWO only has compass scale on top of this panel, sides are free. Weapon groups in lower right corner are mostly displayed on top of cockpit interior, not altering your awareness about events outside.

MWO HUD sometimes can feel too unconspicuous for me, not too prominent. I'll be glad to use HUD color and brightness adjustments to make it suit different maps better (what is hard to make out on bright Alpine Peaks can overshadow your targets on dull Forest Colony), also crosshairs can be a little thinner and BattleGrid resolution can be increased (that also can allow to display different markers for different weight classes). But I doubt that major overhaul with being able to move and resize elements is worth the effort. Unfortunately, I learned to cut my expectations very low when it's about game development by PGI, and so I'll understand if HUD is low on their priorities now, even if I'm not fully satisfied by it.

Here, have an overlay (your picture with 50% opacity atop of MWO screenshot of the map with similar environment). My screenshots are 16:10, so there are two small bands on top and below not covered by your picture. Size is unfotunately reduced to 1280*800 by image hosting website, I need to find another.

That was the original proposal for MechWarrior 5, a single-player game with multi-player tacked on, just like MW2-4. No publishers wanted to touch it. So MW:O is what we got.

And improving the HUD is on the list, somewhere after getting the Clans out the door.

I kind of wish they'd go back to the minimalistic HUD they had back in the open beta.

On that note, am I imagining things, or did the game really look better back then?

I thought closed beta especially in the beginning looked and felt better than it does now. Back then the mechs felt massive and the graphics were really well done. Explosions were epic. Now it's cartoon land. It just had a more simulator feel to it. Now the mechs move like they are on crack. Maybe it's to appease the crowd that has a low attention span. Lol.
