Since the new patch, whenever I open the training ground, the connecting overlay is there. I can train as normal, but the screen is grayed out and the connecting icon in the centre of the screen. I also can't exit without Alt-F4.

Have exactly the same, my fix:

1. Press 'ESCAPE'
2. Then twice TAB
3. Prompt to quit is now 'clickable' (it pops-up in front of the 'connecting' screen) and you can exit the training grounds by clicking quit match.

Next time you connect to training grounds it will work properly I found out.
