Pretty much what the title suggests. Both Ravens are currently sub-par by a massive margin to the "mustard race" 3L, and perhaps the gap can be shortened by raising the engine cap to somewhat equal levels, possibly even higher as a trend in other ECM lights/non ECM lights.

I agree with you to an extent. I would love to see a purchasable engine kit for the Raven, Centurion, Cataphract, and Awesome. They are the only mechs (if I'm wrong there, someone remind me) that are saddled by several of the chassis being locked at a lower engine cap than the later upgrade.

I've toyed with the idea of buying the Pretty Baby, which is probably why this won't EVER happen, but would absolutely be excited to no end if I could get my 8 series up to 70ish KPH. If the Victor can do it and the 9 series can do it, why is the 8 series still hosed by history?

I don't Raven and won't go back and buy the 2X and 4X (I own the 3L and rarely use it), but I agree to raise the caps to the 3L's size.

Well, the 4X needs a "slight buff" to 280 (more if people want it, at least to 295/300 is OK, but kinda unnecessary IMO).

The 2X... right now is has zero role that is easily surpassed by the Jenner-K (although, the Jenner-K has less ASRM options than the 2X) due to JJs, engine speed, modules... pretty much makes the 2X a non-entity.

Outside of trying to add one more energy or missile hardpoint to the 2X, you COULD try to buff the engine cap on the 2X to something like 310, 315, 320, or 325. This allows the mech to goto 160kph after speed tweak and provides the same "effect" that the Commando and Spider engine cap buff did for non-ECM mechs. I'm not sure how the tonnage-loadout picture would look, but that would be the only "option" at this point.

Edit - Here's an example:
RVN-4X

If we swapped in a 310XL instead of the 275XL (3.5 tons accounted for), the top speed of the Raven is almost 160kph after speed tweak.

RVN-2X

If we were able to swap in a 315XL instead of the 275XL (4 tons accounted for), this would be "born". It would kinda "compete" with the Death's Knell (except the Death Knell has arm articulation vs the Raven's side torso laser section, plus the Raven has a "slightly worse" movement archtype - same as the Cicada). It would give "some use" over the Jenner-K (at least, you can kinda outrun it).

Pretty much, it probably can be done, but perhaps more analysis of what it would compete against would be in order.

In closed beta the 4X was capped at 300 rated engines, and the world didn't explode. (Adjustments to engine weight vs internal weight is what lowered the cap). I don't remember what the 2X had, I only had a 4X back then.

I'd be perfectly fine were the cap to change back to 300. Back then it let the otherwise useless ravens (3L didn't exist yet) compete better with jenners, would do about the same thing now.

I agree, but I also think the 3L should be brought down to the current 4X/2X top speeds (along with all other ECM Light mechs).
