While i dont mind any specific map i do mind that it feels like there is no randomness in maps....just a lot of this map...and a bit later a lot of that map...some others in between....map statistics show that too but over time it gets less apparent as more matches are played...some maps are obvioiusly favored above others in some periods of time....
For me i get Terra, Alpine and Caustic the most by a solid margin...

Hopefully the lobby system coming on the 29th will let you know which map you're dropping in before you choose your 'mech. It would also be more realistic. No commander would knowingly send alpine ski troops to a hot desert or tanks into a swamp.

While real world military inefficiencies are not likely to be fixed anytime soon (if at all), PGI actually has the option to fix MWO. If they don't, it won't harm my efficiency: I'll just keep bringing the same great-on-any-map 'mechs and racking up the kills while my enemies shut down. I'd be gimping my team if I brought anything else. I was just hoping for more diversity in 'mechs and loadouts and knowing which 'mech to bring based on the upcoming map would help with that.

Depends on how they do it. Selectable maps will result in certain types of builds becoming more rare. For example, no one will want to play on Therma, Tourmaline, or Caustic which will make heat efficient builds more rare, and cause hot builds to be more common. OTOH, if the map is still random, but you get to choose a mech before you go live in it, it would make some people keep a more diverse stable of mechs. Not sure how they could do anything like with their current match maker, though. Current match maker uses an ELO score based on your wins and losses with the weight class of mech you are bringing. Further, having a mech that's optimized for the map will throw the match maker even worse. (As is, the match maker will often produce strings of wins and losses that appear to make no sense.)

My most dropped on maps by far are Tourmaline, Alpine, and Terra Therma. Least dropped on is Forest Colony Snow. For comparison, I drop on Forest Colony Snow only 1/3rd as often as Tourmaline

To be fair, I think the Forest Colonies, River Cities, and Frozen Cities have less chance than Alpine or Tourmaline, because they both are and aren't two maps, y'know?
