I run almost all of mine stock-ish, I shuffle some things around a little for AMS or the ECM in my COM but other than that I like to keep modifications to a minimum, I don't want the same loadouts across all of my mechs. Mechs are varied for a reason and I like to keep the flavors.

It does make me laugh to see mechs so specialized that working outside of their "zone" almost ensures they will be unable to hurt me. Like the CPLT the other day with all LRMs, I enjoyed pew-pewing him to death with the medium laser on my ECM'ed Commando as he bounced missiles off of me in frustration.

Mech lab is fun, I know. Theory crafting out all sorts of builds is one of the best parts of this game.

However, I have this weird obession of trying to see if I can make the default weaponry on a mech work. I haven't found too many that I like, but one of my favorite mechs is the Orion (based primarily on the hardpoints, and the excelent re-design by Alex Inglacias art).

For me I run a Orion-Protector using the normal loadout of a normal Orion, just upgraded with a TAG laser in the extra energy hardpoint. In fact that extra hardpoint made me sit up and drool over the mech as I knew it was perfect for that anti-ECM TAG laser.

Upgraded it with Endo, FF armor, and Double Heat sinks. The OCD in me is upset by the fact the mech is 74.9 tons, but I'll live.

Orion-Protector with standard loadout

I've changed back and forth with a STD 275 engine with no SRM and up-sized the lasers to be large lasers, but that is a hotter running build.

I already run a lot of my mechs as mostly stock. In fact, I'd say that I don't have a single mech where I sway from the original intent. My BJ-1 is probably the most drastic and all that I did there was swap the AC2s for MGs, the Md Lasers for Lrg Lasers, and dropped in a PPC.

Stock Hunch 4G FTW.

Many mechs have good stock loadouts when it comes to weapons. The problem is the stock cooling (SHS) on many of them. The 4G is good with (I think stock is 2MLasers, 1 SLaser, 1 A/C20), but it is a hot mech with SHS. Also, the ammo load is a bit light.

Still, if I had to run a stock mech, the Hunch 4G would be it.

most of them. at the moment though, my as7-d is using stock weapons because lrm is just so useful, and so is ac/20 to the face.

This is so easy that I am surprised no one else thought of it. ^_^
Just about all of the Clan package mechs -_-

I still use my AS7-D with default weapons, just added AMS, double sinks and a bit more ammo.

The regular Catapult K2 loadout is fine as it is. I like having DHS, Endo, and the rest of the goodies to keep the ridiculous MWO heat down, but once those are in you don't have to change much if you don't want to. Even if it's not awesome, it would totally work.

I recently messed around with remaking my K2 to superstock, and I was left with a bunch of weight left over and no space left. Sadly, I think I'm going to surrender to the meta and put some form of AC/5 on it. A gauss fits no problem and I've been running that, but the DPS is ridiculously low since they didn't decrease the cycle time when they added charging in.

The C1 and C4 stock run ok. I'm still going to put on adv range and target decay mods.

The stock Ilya is no joke. Ammo is a bit light, but AC10 + 2AC5 plus lasers is viable everywhere.

I would have to go with Orion Protector as well for default load out. The Yen-Lo isn't bad either. There may be others but those are the first two off the top of my head.

Am I allowed to fix heat? If so:

Firebrand (though it does run hot), Jager DD
Banshee 3S (love it, even if i never get to use the small lasers)
Pretty much all the Highlanders
AS7-D
All of the Orions can be run stock with fair success if you're careful
All the Thunderbolts are OK stock
Illya
Dragonslayer

Though, I like to run mechs close to stock for my own reasons (largely nostalgia from TT) so maybe I'm more tolerant of stock builds than others.

MY HBK-4G.

I trade the Small Laser in the head for a pair of MG, but otherwise, no weapon mods.

Also my YLW, the only change is upgrading the Mlasers to MPLasers.

My Jager-S simply got more Armor, Ammo and DHS. The weapons were untouched.

My CPLT (F) I trade on medium for a TAG. Add ammo, DHS and armor.

It was the Jaeger that got me thinking about this. The AC-5 and AC-2's used to be gone in favor of Gauss or AC-20's, but the default loadout is making a come back, albeit with more armor and ammo.

On a side note I just made my first 1000 point damage game using the Orion Protector setup with the standard Orion weapon loadout with a TAG laser added.
