However, it's not about how big the legs are, it's about how big they are in proportion to the top half.
The Raven's legs aren't big, either, objectively. In comparison to the overall size of the 'mech, though, they're zomghueg.
If the overall scale of the Timber Wolf Matches something like the Dragon or Catapult the legs are really much much closer to that. The 'weight' of the Timber Wolf is really just coming from how wide it is.

The Timby was always going to have that problem, but all of the announced Clan 'mechs do. I don't think it'll be so bad, though: the T-Wolf is meant to fight from beyond the range of its opponent's weapons, and it's very quick for its size (most Clan 'mechs are).
Most Clan 'mechs are also under-armored and carry very small ammunition loads, as well. They're meant to quickly overwhelm the enemy in a single, decisive engagement, not play cat-and-mouse games through cities and over hills. If you've got a Clan 'mech playing hide and seek with you, chances are good you're winning.

If you mean Timber Wolf, that's because Timber Wolf IS its name.
"Mad Cat" originated from IS targeting computers that couldn't decide if it was a Marauder or a Catapult. Almost all of the Invasion-era Clan 'mechs have two different designations in this manner.

1. Why are you asking about realism when we are talking about 75 ton walking death machine? Looks are everything.
2. If one still does not have a semi-decent GPU in 2014...one should stick to League of Legends.

As for the missle racks. Last i checked, they were considered part of the Side Torso's.
Which... i think is just wrong.... they SHOULD be considered their own hit-box honestly... i mean, all Clan mech's have XL's in them.. which we can NOT remove... so shooting the ST's are goign to be what almost every 'leet' pilot is gonna be doing. Instead of aiming for the CT like 99.9% of all other players, their going to be aiming for those CT shots.
If the Missles are left as part of the ST and not turned into their 'own' Hitboxes (so that you can destroy the LRM's themselves), then the Matcat is goign to be one of those mech's that looks nice, but drops insainly fast, as its stupidly easy to hit those missle boxes.
Ah, but Clan XLs mean they have to take off BOTH missile pods - one side isn't going to kill you. The downside is the same thing you mentioned - people are going to be focusing fire on them, rather than the CT. Although, when I think about it, if it's moving at the same speed as a Dragon, those are reasonably small targets compared to a center-of-mass shot. It depends on how nimble it is - Dragon is fairly nimble as a Heavy mech, since it can outmaneuver most other heavies without jumpjets. On the other hand - low level cover means that the CT is guarded, while the LRM pods have the elevation to clear. It all comes down to playstyle.
Straylight, on 10 April 2014 - 07:35 PM, said:
Yeah, that'll be key. Once again, though, if the mech is moving, it'll be harder to hit those pods head-on compared to the CT. Again, same size and speed as a Dragon, but with the specific advantages of being both an omnimech and filled with advanced weapons.

Get out of here, freebirth. Learn the true designation of a mech before you decide to follow with the fool's name. Mad Cat came from "Marauder/Catapult", the two mechs that the targeting computer provided as possible identifications. Comstar then declared it to be the name of the mech. However, the true makers were Clan Wolf. Therefore, we know it by the name the makers gave it - the Timber Wolf. It's not like the Ebon Jaguar/Cauldron-Born situation, where both names are acceptable.

Oh, I'm sorry for not having the money to update my PC every two years, but university has a drain on the greater proportion of the cash. The rest gets shunted into the other things I'm interested in - conventions, gaming, etc.
Looks are indeed everything, and those stick legs look like complete and utter garbage compared to something that looks like it belongs on the battlefield.

If I can have AMD Radeon 7950 with 3rd world salary, 1st worlders really should have no problem.
Also, get out of here with your ugly Inner Sphere aesthetics.

There's a thread in Upcoming Features.
The Timber Wolf is hardly larger than a Dragon.
The legs are not as big as you think they look.
In the screenshot your posted, they look almost normal/proportinate. But in those other screenshots.. they 'did' look as if they were nearly twice the hight as the rest of the mech was from the waist up =)

I'm not 100% certain on my PC stats, but I'm pretty sure, since I can handle MWO's graphical complexity on high settings reasonably well (at least when the shaders aren't bugged on new maps), I have at least that. I'm just saying that for those people who want the ultra-rounded stick legs, PGI has a habit of catering to the lower-end of the PC market.
Also, third-world salary is most likely still greater than casual rates at a liquor store when you have thousands of dollars of uni fees to repay.

Hardpoints are movable between mechs - hence the title of Omnimech. Move the pods, move the loadout. Pretty sure clan ES and FF take up less internal space, too.

Ahh didnt know that about the 'both ST's need to be destroyed' part.. That settles my nerves a little =)
Tough on the movement. Yea.. the Timber isnt 'built' to be sitting back on a hill somewere and 'sniping'. Thats what the Vulture was designed for i think =P.
The Timber's meant to 'move' while it fights.. so hopefully those ears are harder to hit while moving around at near full speed =)

You do realize theat every mech has an active render for a pilot in the cockpit ingame. I have seen it when the camera clips. There is a way greater waste of processing power there than a few round edges would give.

Clan FF armor and Endo internals only take up 7 crit slots each, so the chances of getting trolled by distributions are fairly slim.

Heh, that's cool. PGI put that info in one of their posts about clantech, and tabletop worked the same way - there's a minimum amount of engine slots you can lose before your mech goes boom, and a Clan XL is JUST too small for one side to take it out.
I remember the 80kph Splatcats, and trying to fight them with a Gauss Dragon. It was ten times easier to take the center-of-mass shot to put the splatcat down at range then trying to de-fang it and remove the missile pod. Pods on a Timber Wolf are smaller than a Catapults, so it'll be even harder to hit.
