It's funny that the 75 ton mech looks sturdier than the 90 tonner. At least the legs on this one look semi-sturdy. I have never been a fan of the alien egg-walker look, so I love the new war machine look of MWO.

Graphical power of 2002... You do realize those model are 12 years old. It's actually pathetic to see how little progress was made in this time. Recommended GPU specs was 8mb for this game!

Do not like that paint job or the legs on it, they look way too thin to support all that weight and the feet..just NO!
The arms at least don't have that flexible straw look to them which is good.

You want to see progress? Take a look at the evolution of this game. Keep in mind that the graphics in every one of these games is state-of-the-art for its time period...

Umm yeah that Timberwolf has what looks to be a bend in the arm covered by...rubber. If it was able to be shot off by an AC20 round then I'd accept that as a viable model :)

That was such a lovely trip down memory lane, right there.

Mind you, I'd have included the top-down Battletech TCHI and Battletech 2 TCHR as well, for posterity. Both where also top of the line for their day, despite being CGA (TCHI) and EGA (TCHR) respectively. CGA was a riot, playing in cyan, magenta, and yellow. Good times.

The targeting reticle bobbed up and down as your mech walked making accurate shooting difficult at times.

I wonder what MWO's player base would have thought of that? :)

On this...
I still need to make the follow ups and the annotations for this one, but... Bouncing reticules. Every movement you do affects your aim; all controlled by your animations. Want reduced bounce? Slow down. Want no bounce? Stop moving and aim. Want lots of bounce? Jump. Best of all it's already in the game. Imagine it in first person.

Why does it have syringes glued to its side?

Just watched the vid Koniving, even without the commentary it makes a very compelling argument. I concur, this could be put into first person mode and would change game balance. I especially liked when you were backing up with the Thunderbolt while holding down on the AC's, it spread the damage even though you were holding the reticule on the CT.

Indeed. And even with the bobbing crosshair, with perfect timing, it is possible to do repeated headshots (during the Banshee) on a small target that I could barely see (the Spider). So from the perspective of the cockpit it'd be easy enough for anyone to do. But what this does is it creates 'timings' to fire, reduces accuracy without even touching pinpoint. (No matter what, it's 100% pinpoint; but now there's skill in timing if you want that pinpoint to matter while moving).

One person brought up an interesting point, it'll hurt fast-moving lights. Yes it probably would, but only certain lights. Truth be told, the best lights aren't firing when moving anyway, and I personally slow down when I go to fire to make my shots more effective already (particularly lasers). An alternative is to switch to pulse lasers for certain mechs (Raven comes to mind; a 3-L at top speed bounces quite a bit). Most lights have no problems. Commandos have the smoothest ride of all, so this might even make them more popular. (In fact, Commandos are least accurate at the slowest speeds, and even then they pretty much trump most mechs).

"Machine guns." Many drawings imagined the mech being a lot larger than it really is, so they depict machine guns as being really small barreled.

The Crescent Hawks were amazing, but I think this was more about the shooter versions. Btw, you can get free downloads of TCH online now, though you have to adjust the settings since computers run so fast now.

I really think the original Mechwarrior was the best past game, though. I may be romancing my memories a little, but the varied "store" selection, mercenary contracts, decision-based storyline and such was just amazing, especially back then.

That would breathe new life into Pulse lasers. I use them, but many shy away. If they tuned the 'bob and weave' for each weight and tuned the lighter of the lights to be closer to stable around 120kph and the 35 ton lights around 105-110 that would still allow them speed, but going full tilt would still throw of their aim considerably.

Jump sniping would require more luck than anything else with this.

I like this idea.
