We need a gladiator areana map...this map would be in a special mode where the map persists and people can connect and spectate and get in a queue to fight...great for community building and to diversity content.
And for the love of the gods and all that's holy we NEED team training grounds...this is essential for community AND FURTHER IT ALLOWS PEOPLE TO CREATE THEIR OWN CONTENT IN ESSENCE.

I strongly agree with the team training grounds! We really need a place to practice as a lance or just scout out certain areas - the only problem I see with it is the grounds would eliminate the whole upcoming idea of pay-premium-time-for-private-matches thing. People would just get in 12 man, drop to testing grounds, have 6 mechs run to the other side and someone yells 'go'.
The gladiator arena map sounds like an interesting concept too but I don't think I'd allow chat for the spectators as I can see that turning into some chaos. >.< But it's cool to think about how that could get integrated into tournaments, like, final top 3 teams face off and everyone can watch kinda thing.
(lol, imagine the pressure of those mechs knowing so many people are watching their every move....XD)

it wouldn't be a match. But rather nothing more than loading up your group to the training grounds. Here is my argument advocating for it in feedback to PGI:

Please read my complete message (well until the dashed line at least). I'm sure you've probably heard this before because everywhere I've suggested it people have said they have been wanting it forever. However I want to make an important point in your prioritization of the need for a group testing grounds feature. What you should consider is that this would "fill in" a lot of holes in content as other stuff is developed because this would allow players to make their own content in essence. As community is the tie that binds an online world this is even more essential as we don't have an easy way to get together with our friends in the world for things such as:
*experimentation
*practice
*trials/try-outs
*ceremonies, meetings and other "in character" activities
This would also allow for:
*emergent game play (people could create their own types of games)
*farting around
All of the components are in place to make this happen I can't imagine it would be any kind of massive undertaking (I've been a software developer for nearly 20 years BTW). From the UI perspective simply allow the group leader to select Testing Grounds...that's it. Then just load everyone into the selected map. No C-Bill payouts or XP issues, just let us load together on a map. Send me the code and I'll do it for you. ;-)
Please pass my complete message along to a project decision maker for consideration. Finally let me reiterate this point: I'm a relatively noob to MWO (although a multi-decade BattleTech/MechWarrior aficionado) and I've come to discover there is SIGNIFICANT UNREST among the older-timers. This relatively easy addition would add SIGNIFICANTLY to people's patience and satisfaction with the game giving you more breathing room to complete your larger features.
Thank you for your time and attention. I'm rooting for you! :-)

What we do to "get around" this missing feature is a long, boring and stressful endeavor of getting together 24 people, organizing them into two 12 man teams and coordinating a search with the same game type in the HOPE that we drop together. And the fruit of this is a stressful 15 minute countdown to take care of all of our business. If we miss-synch the drop it's a nighmare of people waiting for their mech's to unlock.
Needless to say the teamspeak server is full of bitching against the devs. I'm in a minority pointing out obvious elements of the dev team's passion. I think you made some bold decisions that demonstrate the hearts of mechwarriors. This includes no-respawn only, seperate arm targeting (leg direction, torso direction, arm direction can all be different - hard core - wow) and 3rd person implementation (initially leaving it out but then putting in an inspired, realistic and well balanced way to offer it that I think is genius). So keep up the good work and take the pressure off by implementing this feature sooner (if not before anything else). Seriously consider re-prioritizing it please.
Oh also props on:
1) The complexity of the MechLab (though the UI only allowing modification of one area at a time not so much). :-)
2) Sophisticated and engaging electronic warfare elements (ECM, BAP, TAG)
3) Performance...it runs more beautifully on less hardware then less attractive alternatives (such as World of Tanks)
I can't think of everything right now but I frequently find elements I'm impressed with despite the yet unrealized potential. It's chock full of MechWarrior goodness. :-) You've got the MechWarrior down. Now we just need the Online part and again group testing grounds would have the largest ROI of anything else you could possibly do in terms of gain vs. amount of work.

Yes, I know it's not dropped in a match format, but in the testing grounds you can still cause damage to those trial mechs standing around - what I mean is people will just work it out to play, sure no kill counter, time limit, score or anything like actually in-game but it can and most likely will be used in that manner.
Think about it, pay for premium time to have private matches for fun or run to the testing grounds for free and play there however no rewards are gained? I would certainly choose the free option as the match is just for fun.
Intended use for coordination, but just saying that would make the premium-time-private-matches idea pretty much abandoned except for the few who do want the rewards.

Great post but I couldn't disagree more on not allowing spectators to chat...that would be most fun! Online gaming is the last bastion of boyhood and schoolyard smack talking lol.

One word: Solaris VII.
Deathmatches: permament damage to mech- no auto-repair/reload. Cockpit destroyed hits eliminate you from that ladder.
Real prizes: MC, Hero and Champion Mechs, Modules, etc..
Individual matches only, no groups.
Limited 1 matches: 'mechs within 10 tons of each other
Limited 2 matches: 'mechs within 20 tons of each other
Unlimited matches: Just what it says.
Ishiyama, anyone?
And it will never happen......*sigh*
