Since there are a lot of mechs that do not benefit from Arm Reflex skill, why not just lock arms to torso permanently, increase movement range of the torso for all mechs, and call it good.

It would fix the leg clipping (so mechs don't have to look insanely ugly to compensate) and remove a rather useless skill for a lot of mechs.

i.e. mechs that don't have weapons on their arms.

Thoughts?

How would they shoot things very low or high? I would think they would look pretty silly (and unbalanced) bending up and down as much as their arms move now.

That's stupid. We're piloting 'Mechs, not tanks.

the only thing the arm recticle needs fixing with is if you aim your arms to the left of the max torso twist you should only be able to hit with left arm weapons and vice versa, not hit with BOTH arm weapons

It would mean that mechs without arms, stay the same, while mechs WITH arms, gain a significant advantage as their Torso can no move as high as arms do.

Not a good idea, IMHO.

Locking arms to torso removes yet another level of skill from the game and means all mechs that have large arm movement would be gimped since right now they trade away the ability to have high weapon mounts and bigger weapons for the ability to move the arm weapons further. This proposal would reward mechs like Jagers and punish mechs like the Atlas. It also means absolute death for anyone in a larger mech trying to track a light mech that is circling them... I've spectated on way too many heavy or assault players with that infernal arm lock turned on (because it's that way by default) be circled to death by light mechs... and they just can't turn fast enough to hit them, nor can they move their arm weapons to nail them because the arms are locked to the torso.

That being said, the skill trees do need some rework since some of the skills are not useful, with arm reflex sometimes falling into that category.
